What is the secret to a long and happy life? Nobody has the exact answer, and even Vula, who will celebrate her 100th birthday, said she doesn’t know the answer either. However, after visiting with Vula and her daughters, it seems the answer for Vula revolves around prioritizing family first, never letting the grass grow under her feet, and being ahead of her time— she was “organic” before organic food became popular.
CELEBRATING a century of cherished memories, Vula Mae Roy will turn 100 years young on June 3rd.

Blooming Oasis Greenhouse in Stockton is officially open!

In the summer of 2024, Nikki Pulec had the incredible opportunity to purchase the beloved local greenhouse from Cheryl Hrabe. Cheryl had lovingly built and operated the Plant House at Hrabe Hriver Crossing for years, pouring her heart into every leaf, bloom, and customer interaction.

Memorial Day Speech centers around our “Constitutional” Rights

In his annual address during the Memorial Day Services at the Stockton City Cemetery on Monday, May 26th, veteran and VFW Post 8873 Quartermaster John Berkley spoke as follows: “I would like to welcome everyone to our Memorial Day Services. This day has been set aside for Americans to remember their departed friends and relatives. As veterans we take this time to remember our fellow veterans— those with whom we served and those who served before us and after us.
IN HONOR OF OUR HEROES, our flag waves proudly before the Veterans Memorial at the St. Thomas Cemetery on Memorial Day, a symbol of bravery, sacrifice, and enduring freedom.

Early copy reminder for this Memorial Day

The Sentinel will require early copy for our May 29th issue because of the Memorial Day holiday on Monday, May 26th. The Sentinel office will be closed for the holiday, but we will print as usual on Wednesday morning, so there will NOT be an early issue, we just need early copy! Please turn in all ads and news no later than this Friday, May 23rd before 5:00 p.m.

With the absence of chairman Tim Berland, Jake Prockish oversaw the Rooks County Commission meeting on Tuesday, May 13th. The first order of business for commissioners Prockish and Tracy Rudman was a meeting with Senior Companion/ Foster Grandparents Director Stephanie Niblock.
