RCH to use electronic ballots for elections set for this Friday, May 2nd

The Rooks County Health Center Board voted to use an electronic system for its election process for the two open board positions set for this Friday, May 2nd, at the hospital. At the monthly meeting held on Tuesday, April 22nd, June Karlin, executive assistant/ medical staff services, demonstrated the electronic voting process for the upcoming election to the board members and others present.

KDOT warns public of smishing scam

The Kansas Department of Transportation is again warning the public about a scam involving fraudulent text messages – known as smishing – that falsely claim to be from KDOT and demand payment for unpaid tolls.

District offices to be moved to the high school building

At the regular meeting on Monday, April 14th, the Stockton USD 271 School Board voted by a vote of six yes (Ginger Riffel, Chad Sterling, Michael Carpenter, BJ Hoeting, Jessy Maddy, and Spencer Hilbrink) and one no (Andy Muir) to relocate the Main Street District Offices to the high school and hire contractors for the recommended work needed so everything is in place for the 2025-2026 school year this fall.

Commissioners discuss courthouse wall repair

During their weekly meeting on Tuesday, April 15th, the Rooks County Commission approved special event cereal malt beverage licenses for the Plainville Fire Department and the Rooks County Golf Course Board for two upcoming golf tournaments. They also received a letter from the State of Kansas regarding the upcoming CDBG project for Richland Township and a thank-you note from the Palco After Prom Bash committee for the County’s donation.

Stockton Fire Dept. responds to two calls

On Monday afternoon, April 14th, the Plainville Fire Department called for mutual aid for a fire south of Codell. The Stockton, Natoma, and Ellis County Fire Departments responded with Stockton on site for three hours. A power line started the fire, and several acres burned.

Stockton City-Wide Cleanup is April 28th through May 2nd

It’s spring-cleaning time! The Stockton City-Wide Cleanup (trash customers within the Stockton City limits) is next week April 28th through May 2nd. Trash routes will be picked up as regularly scheduled, with additional city trucks following to pick up furniture, tree branches, appliances (Freon must be drained from refrigerators), yard waste, and tires (limit 5, anything over the five-tire limit will be charged landfill prices).
