Dear Editor, Every two years, the Institute for Policy and Social Research at the University of Kansas performs a study sponsored by the Kansas Hospital Association, which delves into the importance of the health care sector to the Kansas economy, and then, more specifically, the importance of the health care sector in each county. We received the final Rooks County report, and a press release was in last week's paper detailing some of the headlines of that report (which includes 2023 data) • Hospital direct employment contribution (jobs) – 156 • Physician offices direct employment contribution (jobs) - 26 • Hospital direct labor (wages being paid out into the county) - $10.6 million • Physician offices' direct employment contribution (wages being paid out into the county) - $1.7 million • Combined, 5% of the total jobs in Rooks County, and 12% of the labor income • Multiplier effect of hospital and physician office jobs - 209 • Multiplier effect of direct labor (wages) - $13.2 million • Local sales tax revenue generated by hospital and physician offices - $93,000 This is all economic, numeric data, computed by professors and researchers at KU.
