SEDGWICK COUNTY—The Sedgwick County Zoo family is heartbroken to announce the passing of Stephanie, a 55-year-old African elephant. Stephanie lived at the Zoo since 1972 and was the longest-tenured resident.

HAYS—“After careful deliberation, I have decided to close the Sternberg Museum's public-facing operations as part of our strategic Budget Alignment process. The closure of public operations will take effect on December 18th, 2026.

HAYS—An employee of the Sternberg Museum of Natural History posted Monday night, September 21st, on Facebook that the Hays museum will be closing at the end of the year. The University has not made an official statement about the museum's future.

HAYS—After retiring from the bench following almost three decades of service, Richard Flax decided he was not finished helping people. Flax is taking over as Hays Municipal Court Judge after Ross Wichman retired, having served in the position for 20 years.

GREAT BEND—Law enforcement authorities investigating a homicide in Great Bend have made an arrest. At approximately 12:30 p.m.
