OSBORNE—The Osborne County Sheriff’s Office announced the official retirement of longstanding sheriff Curtis Miner on Monday, January 20th. Miner served Osborne County for 32 years and has been a Certified Law Enforcement Officer since 1977.After completing the police academy, Miner served as the City of Osborne’s police chief until 1979.

COFFEY COUNTY—A 32-year-old former Burlington High School teacher and wrestling coach was sentenced on Thursday, January 9th, in Coffey County District Court related to the sexual abuse of two teens. At the sentencing hearing, a judge sentenced Michael Vander Linden of Burlington to 36 months in prison and lifetime registration as a registered offender for three counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child.

HAYS—Dr. Jerod Grove has sued HaysMed in U.S. District Court to stop the hospital from enforcing a non-compete clause that he says prevents him from practicing medicine in western Kansas. Grove, a general surgeon, resigned from the hospital on November 12th. HaysMed has employed him for nine years.
