SCOTT COUNTY—The Scott City Police Department reported a burglary on Thursday morning, June 13th, at the First National Bank, 501 Main in Scott City. Authorities have taken a suspect into custody.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY—On Sunday, June 9th, the staff at Ralph Mitchell Zoo in Independence discovered one of its three Siberian bear sisters had apparently decided zoo life had become unbearable and made an unsuccessful attempt to tunnel out of her enclosure, according to a media release from the city. While the bear never made it out of the enclosure confines, she did manage to dig under the viewing platform and slip barely out of sight of staff for a very brief period of time.

LAWRENCE—What started in late May and will continue for much of June will have residents of northwest Kansas seeing a low-flying helicopter towing a sizeable hexagonal frame. This unusual arrangement is part of a project to map groundwater conditions in the Ogallala aquifer in northwest Kansas Groundwater Management District No.

ELLIS AND RUSSELL COUNTIES—After the wind and hail storm on Sunday, May 19th, went through Ellis and Russell Counties; hail reports ranged from golf ball-sized hail in Hays to threeinch hail in the Ellis and Gorham areas. High winds downed large limbs in Hays, with large hail breaking windows and damaging vehicles.

JACKSON COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect on multiple allegations after a traffic stop. Just after 5:00 a.m.

FORD COUNTY—A Kansas pilot avoided injury after a mishap just after 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 1st, in Ford County.

ELLIS COUNTY—The City of Hays will locate its new police station and municipal courts downtown at 1100 Fort, the site of Astra Bank.The building has 23,000 square feet of space with room for expansion. An agreement was formalized by the Hays City Commission with Astra Bank/ AIS, which plans to build a new facility on city-owned land at 27th and Main.

DICKINSON COUNTY—Law enforcement in Kansas located an abducted child in Dickinson County. Just before 8:00 p.m.

RENO COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating after sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence in Nickerson on April 11th to check on the welfare of animals. Deputies found the home had several cats, dogs, and other animals inside, according to a media release from the Hutchinson Animal Shelter.
