A Plainville man was sentenced to more than 13 years in prison on Friday, June 16, in Rooks County District Court for rape and sexual assault after reaching a plea agreement April 28. Ten charges were initially filed on September 9, 2024, in Rooks County District Court against Bryan Xavier Moran, 30, of Plainville.

Intricate Customs, a laser engraving business, is owned and operated by 2025 Plainville High School graduate Bryan Garvert. It began when Garvert was in eighth grade (2021) and competed in the Rooks County Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge (YEC), a competition for Rooks County students that showcases their inner entrepreneur and million-dollar ideas where individuals or small teams create an imaginary, yet possible, business that could, if started, generate a profit.

The Stockton USD 271 Board of Education’s monthly meeting held on Monday, June 9th had several items on the agenda, with the first being the approval from the board members to allow for the removal and disposal of items from the District Office and storage units on school property at the discretion of Superintendent Angela McCollum.

Special school board sports meeting held

Members of the community came together on Monday, June 9th at the Stockton USD 271 District Office to talk about sports for the upcoming school year. The concern centers around high school girls volleyball and basketball due to low numbers for those sports, as well as the District needing coaches for those positions.

City looking for new EMS Director

The Stockton City Commission meeting held on Tuesday, June 3rd, began with two executive sessions to discuss non-elected personnel with Solomon Valley Manor Administrator Amanda Atkisson, commissioners Reesa Brown, Bob Becker, Adam Bryant, Jesica Kerr, Nathan Glendening, and city manager/clerk Kayla Hilbrink. There was no discussion when they returned to the open meeting. Next on the agenda was a presentation by Don Rivera with Western Kansas Child Advocacy. Rivera presented the 2024 statistics for Stockton, including the number of services the organization provided throughout the year. He requested funds for their upcoming budget, with the commissioners approving $2,500.00 for the organization.

County talks computers at the weekly meeting

At the June 3rd Rooks County Commission’s Tuesday morning meeting the three commissioners met with register of deeds April Brown, who presented them with a computer proposal. She had a spreadsheet detailing the costs of the computers, installation, software, and other expenses for them to review.
