Stockton answers three fire calls

On Thursday, June 19th, the Stockton Fire Department responded to a call on 9 Road, between Highway 183 and J Road, for a combine on fire. The cause was a hot bearing and was smoldering, not burning, when the fire department arrived on the scene. The volunteers performed a thorough wet down of the combine and worked the area for approximately thirty minutes.

Champions selected at 2025 Kansas Junior Angus Show

Kansas Junior Angus members led 102 entries at the 2025 Kansas Junior Angus Association Preview Show, June 7-8 in Hutchinson. Jim Pipkin, Republic, Mo., evaluated eight bred-and-owned bulls, 54 owned females, 12 bred-and-owned females, two cow-calf pairs, nine registered Angus steers, and 17 phenotype and genotype females before choosing winners.

Second Annual Cruise Night Poker Run a community success

The 2025 Cruise Night Poker Run took place on Friday, June 13th, during Cruise Night in Stockton. Tim Johnston and Helen King initiated this event in 2024—the first year they joined the Stockton Rodders— believing it would engage more people during Cruise Night.

Executive session takes up most of city meeting

At the Stockton City Commission meeting on Tuesday, June 17th, the commissioners spent most of their time in a 20-minute executive session to discuss non-elected personnel. At the start of the meeting, they reviewed the agenda items.

County listens to requests at meeting

At the Rooks County Commission meeting held on Tuesday, June 17th, Kayla Hilbrink and Sam Jackson, representing the Rooks County Golf Course Board, were present to request the purchase of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and First Aid equipment for the facility. Hilbrink presented the costs for the two items, totaling $1,699.00 for the AED and approximately $250.00 for a First Aid kit.

Kansas and area wheat harvest is underway

Harvest activities started to move into southern Kansas during the second week of June. However, progress was slow due to scattered thunderstorms and high humidity across the state. Now, with the arrival of summer heat and sunshine, combines are actively working in the fields, and elevators are busy with trucks lined up to deliver this year's wheat harvest.
THE FIRST LOAD OF WHEAT for the 2025 area harvest in Stockton was cut and brought in by Jake Conger for Alan Peters on Friday, June 20th. The moisture content was 12.5 and the test weight was 53.9.
