Brian Pattrick Smith was born October 31, 1975 on the USAH Base in Wurzburg, Germany to Don Jay and Linda S. (Scott) Smith. He passed away May 3, 2022 in Norton, Kansas at the age of 46.

He grew up in Stockton, Kansas and was a 1995 graduate of Stockton High School. He was very active in sports, competing in football, track, K-18 and the American Legion baseball teams and he was a state qualifier in wrestling. In high school, he was known to many as “Smithers.”

Brian married Corene Barnett on May 30, 2009 at the Hoxie Christian Church.

Joan H. (Knutson) Olson

Joan H. (Knutson) Olson, formerly of Bottineau, N.D. passed away April 20, 2022, at Reeds Cove Health and Rehabilitation, Wichita, Kansas.

She was born September 23, 1942, in Richardton, N.D. to parents, Walter and Erna (Rasch) Knutson of Halliday, N.D. When Joan was five years old, her family moved to McKenzie, N.D. She received her education at McKenzie Grade School, and then Bismarck High School.

Paula Jean Haskett, Agra, went home to be with Jesus on April 14, 2022, at the age of 59. 

She was born on June 6, 1962 to Sterling and Pauline Bagby, and from the very beginning, her life was an adventure; arriving six weeks early, the doctor gave Sterling the decision to save baby Paula, or Pauline. Instead of choosing, Sterling insisted that the doctor “go save them both!”; in that moment, the incredible spark in her soul was ignited.

On Wednesday, December 30, 2020, Gerald "Jerry" Benoit, after a tough battle with Covid-19 crossed over to be with his Lord and rejoin his parents and sister. He was born on January 18, 1951, in Rooks County Kansas to Bernard and Marie (Brown) Benoit.

An avid KU fan, he enjoyed watching KU basketball with family and friends. His other hobbies included hunting, fishing, and playing golf. His biggest joy was spending time with his three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joyce Gosselin.

The services celebrating and honoring the life of Byron Forest Carpenter, age 98, of Lake Winnebago, Missouri, formerly of Enid, Okla., will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday April 19, 2022, in the Brown-Cummings Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Enid Cemetery under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

Byron Forest Carpenter died April 12th, 2022, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law. He was born July 2, 1923, in Donaphin County, Kansas, the youngest of James Fredrick and Lucile (Case) Carpenter’s five children.

Raymond Scott Klawonn, age 51, of Charleston, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2022 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, Ill., with loved ones at his side.

He was born June 27, 1970 in Waukegan, Illinois, the son of Raymond C. and Dorothy (Gnorski) Klawonn. He married Brandee Arleen Pywell, April 7, 2006 in Charleston; she survives. They celebrated their sixteenth anniversary on the day of his passing.

Former Plainville resident Phyllis M. Jaco, age 89, passed away Sunday, April 10, at Coon Memorial Nursing Home in Dalhart, Texas.

Family will be receiving friends on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home, 320 SW 2nd, Plainville.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, April 14, at 2:00 p.m., at First Christian Church, 301 S. Broadway, Plainville. Burial will be in Plainville City Cemetery.

Beulah “Aloha” (Ashley) Odle, age 94, of Stockton, passed away on April 5, 2022, at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville, Kansas.

She was born on November 11, 1927, to Ralph and Martha (Hicks) Ashley in Logan, Kansas.  She married Ernest Lee Odle on July 13, 1946. They were blessed with two children: Kevin and Marta.

Aloha grew up in Logan and graduated from Logan High School in 1945. She married Lee while he was in the U.S. Army, and she accompanied him to Fort Ord, California.

Metta “Nadine” (Jones) Bair passed away on April 5, 2022, at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville, Kansas at the age of 90.

She was born on September 26, 1931, to James and Ione (Yohe) Jones in Plainville. She was united in marriage to George Bair on December 28, 1950, at the First Christian Church in Plainville. The couple was blessed with four daughters: Linda, Connie, Diane, and Gerri.
