She was born July 13, 1933 in Stockton, the daughter of Ernest and Hilda (Roelfs) Lamkin. She graduated from Stockton High School then earned her Cosmetology License. Ernestine was a homemaker who cared for her family with a well kept home and family meals. She enjoyed crafting and collecting Beanie Babies with her daughter Angela.
George and Cooper Gier, of Russell, Kansas, died in a tragic car accident on Friday, February 11, 2022, in rural Russell County, Kansas.
George Cecil Gier was born on June 28, 1981, in Salina, Kansas, the son of Leo G. and Marian K. (Cooper) Gier. He grew up in Osborne, Kansas, and graduated from Osborne High School in the class of 1999. After high school he played football for two years at Highland Community College.
Todd Wesley Jones, 42, of Wichita, Kansas lost his lifelong battle with mental illness on January 25, 2022.
Leonard Rahjes, age 74, Kensington, passed away on January 26, 2022, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City after a valiant, months-long battle with lymphoma.
He was born on July 12, 1947, in Smith Center, Kansas.
Leonard grew up on his family’s farm in the rural Agra-Kensington area and continued living on this homestead his whole life. Leonard attended Agra High School and graduated in 1965. His work ethic helped establish a successful farming operation which was his lifelong work.
Leland Steven Dix, age 73, of Ellis, Kansas, passed away Sunday, January 30, 2022 at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.
He was born January 13, 1949 in Phillipsburg, Kansas, the son of Leonard F. and Lula Jane (Richardson) Dix. He grew up in Stockton and graduated from Stockton High School in 1967.
Rita Joan Hrabe, Stockton, passed away on January 30, 2022, at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville at the age of 86.
Margaret “Edna” White Blauer Gartrell passed away at the age of 105 on January 29, 2022 in Stockton, Kansas.
She was born in Jewel County, Kansas on August 8, 1916 to Charles Ernest White and Martha Emmer (Crumley) White. Edna grew up with siblings: Mary Lucille, Dorothy Jean, Charles Robert, and Wayne Crumley.
Edna attended rural schools and grew up in Smith and Jewel counties. Her first six years of school she and her sister walked one mile to the country school. She then attended and graduated from Lebanon High School in 1934.
Margaret Nix, Smith Center, passed away Jan. 21, 2022, at the Smith County Hospital in Smith Center at the age of 66.
She was born August 4, 1955, the daughter of E.B. & Annie (Simmons) Smith.
Survivors include her son Nicholas of Smith Center; her daughter, LaDonna Stice of Stockton; her brother E.B. Smith, Jr; her sisters, Pam Rogers, Patsy Turner and Nelda Massey; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Earl L. Chesney, age 71, of Natoma, Kansas, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2022, at the Redbud Village in Plainville.
He was born May 27, 1950, in Hays, Kansas. He was one of five sons born to Homer Bruce and Eileen (Meyers) Chesney. He grew up in Natoma and graduated from Natoma High School.
Earl served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. After his tour of duty, he returned to the Natoma area.
Ray Dobson, age 86, Hays, was swept up by angels on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, to go to his eternal home to be with Jesus.
