With the 2022 Rooks County Free Fair just coming to a close, the work for next year’s event has already started with the exciting announcement that the 2023 Fair will have a carnival!

This year’s sixth- and seventh-grade English and sixth-grade Science teacher is Dana Horton. Horton grew up in Palco, Kansas and graduated from Palco High School in 1988.

This year’s fourth-grade math and science teacher is Lucy Tate. Tate grew up in Luray and graduated from Sylvan-Lucas Unified High School in 2018.

HALLIE AND KAMYAH GALLAWAY weren’t going to take a chance of missing out on eating cotton candy at the Rooks County Free Fair, as they enjoyed their treat during a break on Monday evening.

Several members of the community were at the Stockton USD 271 Board of Education meeting held on Monday, August 8th to speak to the board members dealing with the concerns the community has about the school including academic proficiency.

THIS JOB IS NOT FOR EVERYONE! A crew has been working on the water tower, preparing it for painting. Previously, divers went inside the tower, checking for rust or any other problem areas. They are now going over every square inch of the exterior prior to painting.

The Kansas Department of Transportation announces approved bids for state highway construction and maintenance projects. The letting took place July 20, 2022, in Topeka. Some of the bids may include multiple projects that have been bundled based on proximity and type of work.

At the start of the August 2nd regular meeting of the Stockton City Commission, the members present approved the Consent Agenda as presented. Items included were the Solomon Valley Manor gross payroll in the amount of $59,091.38, the Solomon Valley Manor warrants in the amount of $68,613.
