Red Line Cruisers 6th annual event a success

Friday, May 6th was the night to be in Plainville for the Red Line Cruisers 6th Annual Cruise Night. Many onlookers started early and stayed late, listening to classic rock-and -oll music provided by Bob & Sue Schonthaler, and also enjoyed all of the food vendors. There were around 200 vehicles cruising the streets of Plainville.

Commissioners vote to stay comparable to Medicaid room rate increase

At the Stockton City Commission held on Tuesday, May 3rd, the commissioners met with Solomon Valley Manor Administrator Admanda Atkisson. She informed the Board that she had received notification that the Medicaid room rate was going up on July 1st, noting a $30.00 increase. She also relayed to the commissioners that the Manor had only raised its room rates two times in the past six years. At the present time the room rates are $195.00 a day for a private room, and $185.00 per day for semi-private rooms. Medicaid is $205.37 and will increase to $235.37 in July. After some discussion, the commissioners stated that their goal is to stay comparable to Medicaid now and in the future, and voted for a $40.00 increase in room rates to start August 1st

The Rooks County Free Fair is still a few months away, but now is the time to plant vegetables in your wheelbarrow for the Fair’s Wheelbarrow Garden Contest. The contest rules state that you can display your choice of no more than twelve (12) and nowfewer than seven (7) of your favorite vegetables (including tomatoes).

Please join the Stockton Area Chamber of Commerce by participating in one or all of the events that have been planned for the annual Peony Festival to be held on Saturday, May 21st. Deadlines are coming up fast for those who would like to participate in the Garden Lady Contest or the Gnome Scavenger Hunt, which is this Friday, May 13th with the parade float entries to be submitted by Friday, May 20th at the Chamber Office.

Special School Board meeting held

During a special Stockton School Board meeting held on Monday, May 2nd, the board members voted to contract Brooke Werner, Miranda Tate and Dana Horton as grade school teachers for the 2022- 2023 school year. They also moved to accept the resignations of teachers Megan Kennedy and Tricia Hemphill effective at the end of the 2022 school year.

KDOT announces approved April bids

The Kansas Department of Transportation announces approved bids for state highway construction and maintenance projects. The letting took place April 20, 2022, in Topeka. Some of the bids may include multiple projects that have been bundled based on proximity and type of work.
