At the start of the meeting held on Tuesday, September 6th, the Stockton City Commission held two Public Hearings. The first was to set the Revenue Neutral Rate for the City, and the second was to review the 2023 budget.

Lynn Rogers looking into Emergency Financial Assistance for Farmers and Communities affected by the Drought in Western Kansas The drought that is currently affecting farmers and communities in western Kansas strikes close to Treasurer Lynn Rogers’ heart, having grown up on a farm himself.

The commissioners met with sheriff Gary Knight on Tuesday, September 6th at their regular Rooks County Commission meeting. Knight informed the commissioners that he is working on a vehicle lease agreement and is setting up an account with the county clerk and treasurer for direct withdrawal.

The Damar Acadia of the Westfest held September 2-4 was a huge success when nearly 500 area and former Damar residents took to the streets of Damar for a Labor Day Weekend festival.

The Rooks County Courthouse will celebrate its 100th anniversary next April. So for the past few years preparations have been underway to “spruce up” and restore the impressive building made of Bedford stone with an underlay of vitrified brick and constructed by Cuthbert & Son of Topeka.

The Kansas Department of Transportation announces approved bids for state highway construction and maintenance projects. The letting took place Aug. 17, 2022, in Topeka. Some of the bids may include multiple projects that have been bundled based on proximity and type of work.
