Area wheat harvest update

As of Tuesday, July 5th, the Stockton Farmers Union Elevator has recorded almost 300,000 bushels of wheat taken in with Woodston Coop having 305,000 bushels to date. The protein count has been all over the place, but should average out pretty good.

Construction projects starting in Gove and Logan counties

The Kansas Department of Transportation began work on a pair of road construction projects in Gove and Logan counties starting Tuesday, July 5. In Gove County, crews will be completing a mill and overlay on 15 miles of K-23 starting at the south city limits in Gove and ending at the Sheridan County line.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE was held Saturday, June 11th, at the Plainville Saddle Club Rodeo in remembrance of Richard “RJ” Schleicher who tragically lost his life in a car accident September 16th, 2021. Richard and two fellow bull riders, Jesse Hopper of Magnum, Okla., and Jate Frost of Randlett, Utah were traveling to Pendleton, Oregon to a rodeo when the accident happened. A Memorial Bull Ride, which was among the many events taking place at the rodeo in Plainville, was held in Richard’s honor. Prayers for Ezra

Harry and Willardene Purdum’s great-grandson, Ezra, was diagnosed with Chronic granulomatous disease in April of last year, and knowing the power of prayer, they would appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers as Ezra goes through a bone marrow process this month.
PICTURED are Jessica, Ezra, Charlie and Cameron Scott. Ezra has started his chemo treatments and will begin the bone marrow transplant soon. Little brother Charlie’s bone marrow will be used to help his big brother get better.

Donation to RCH marks legacy of support for Rooks County

A major contribution to Rooks County Health Center (RCH) has been recognized with the renaming of the RCH Rehabilitation Center, which was added to the hospital in the fall of 2019. The donation, which will help fund critical hospital needs for years to come, was made by former Rooks County resident Cecil Crawford, who along with his late wife, Brenda, founded Crawford Supply Co.
THE RCH REHABILITATION CENTER was recently renamed the Cecil and Brenda Crawford Rehabilitation Center, thanks to the generous contribution from former Rooks County resident, Cecil Crawford, and his late wife, Brenda.

No, it was not a joke last week when we stated the hard copy of our newspaper was going to be printed in full color. Because Don Moffet, agent for Farm Bureau Financial Services, requested his office hours ad run in full color, we carefully selected pictures on the front and back pages of the newspaper that would pop with color.

Area Harvest update

As of Monday, June 27th the Stockton Farmers Union Elevator has taken in 55,000 bushels of wheat. The Woodston Coop has taken in 35,000 bushels with Jerry McReynolds bringing in the first load of wheat for this harvest.

“Names on the Wall” taking a short hiatus

Body
The “Names On The Wall” articles that are featured in the Stockton Sentinel will be on hiatus for the month of July while writer Susan D. McFarland is on vacation. The plan is to start the series up again some time in August.
