RoCo Arts mural project gratefully accepts Jerry Sterling Memorial

The Mural Project of RoCo Arts Council was blessed last week by the family of Jerry Sterling with a generous donation in his honor. This gift will be very beneficial in getting paint on the blank wall at the “stoplight intersection” of U.S. Highways 183 and 24 in Stockton.

The Rooks County Free Fair started off with the Demolition Derby on Sunday evening with Monday filled with music and fun when the KZNC Party DJs took the stage under the Solutions North Bank Pavilion, and the first night of the Inflatable Carnival was held. Now on Tuesday (August 8th) the FREE Ranch Rodeo will take place in the Frank Smith Arena starting at 7:00 p.m.

Of special interest in this year's Primary Election was the Constitutional Amendment on abortion rights. The amendment would determine whether the state constitution should include a provision that says it does not provide access to abortion. Although voters in Rooks County were in favor of the proposed amendment by a vote of 1151 Yes, 3602 No, it was rejected across the state by an approximate 60%-40% vote.

The Rooks County Free Fair will begin this Sunday, August 7th with a few changes from past years in the grandstand lineup, so please take note. The Demolition Derby will kick off this year’s grandstand events at the fairgrounds with a bang on Sunday, August 7th.
4-H and FFA Livestock Sale to be held Friday, August 12th

Come support the Rooks County youth at the 4-H and FFA Livestock Sale on Friday, August 12th. The event will be held at the Sutor-Blauer Arena at the Rooks County Fairgrounds. The Buyers’ Hospitality Hour will begin at 5:00 p.m. with the sale to start promptly at 6:00 p.m. Market Lambs, Market Steers, Market Goats and Market Hogs will be sold. Make plans now to participate in the 4-H Silent Food Auction to be held during the Rooks County Free Fair. The ten items for auction will be on display in Harding Hall and ready for bids by Monday evening, August 8th.
Brooke Werner — New hire at USD 271

Brooke Werner is ready to give her students a creative, educational environment to grow their knowledge and values as she takes over the duties of Stockton’s new third grade teacher. Werner graduated from Plainville High School in 2018 and received her degree in Elementary Education from Fort Hays State University this past May.

Kyle Hull needs no introduction to the Stockton community since he not only grew up near Woodston, but also graduated from Stockton High School in 2017. And as most everyone who knows him, knows he is the biggest Kansas City Chiefs fan you will ever meet!
