Commissioners meet with new county sanitarian

The Rooks County Commissioners were introduced to the new county sanitarian, Phillip Murrow, who is taking over the position from Sherry Koster for the North Central Kansas Local Environmental Protection Group (NCKLEPG) at the regular weekly meeting on Tuesday, April 26th.

PRIDE Day held in Stockton

The Stockton High School students and faculty teamed up with Stockton PRIDE on Wednesday, April 27th for the annual PRIDE cleanup day. The students were out and about town throughout the day helping at several locations. Projects that had been lined up included washing windows, cleaning out flower beds, and working in the yard at the Solomon Valley Manor; deep cleaning and doing some paint touch up at the Stockton Recreation Center; raking and general cleanup at Valley View Apartments; cleaning, painting and yard work at the Stockton Methodist Church; painting the bleachers at the Rooks County Fairgrounds, cleaning out the grade school flower bed; staining the deck and yard work at the Mike and Connie Stithem residence; raking and cleaning out the gutters

SHS Awards Banquet held

The Stockton High School Awards Banquet was held on Wednesday, April 27th at the high school gym. The evening began with a Welcome that was given by Lions Club President Amber Muir with refreshments sponsored by Tiger Nation and the Stockton Lions Club.
THE 2022 DARRELL AND SHEILA LATHAM SCHOLARSHIP FOR SUCCESS recipients were from left: Coryn Hahn, Delany Snyder, Olivia Dix, Sheila Latham, Rylan Basart and Savannah Gray. The seniors were awared their scholarships during the Awards Banquet held on Wednesday, April 27.

The Stockton Fire Department was called to a fire approximately one-half to one mile north of Stockton near U.S. Highway 183.

Sign replacement project underway on I-70

Work has started on a traffic sign replacement project along I-70 in northwest Kansas. The Kansas Department of Transportation is replacing mile markers, route markers and other signage on I-70 starting near Ruleton in Sherman County and will end near Dorrance in Russell County.

Six Rooks County Businesses recognized at BAM award luncheon

The Kansas Department of Commerce’s annual Business Appreciation Month (BAM) award luncheon was held in Hays at the Rose Garden Banquet Hall on Thursday, April 7th. At the event six Rooks County businesses were recognized. These awards were from 2021 and had been delayed due to COVID concerns.

Minor earthquake reported in Rooks County

A small earthquake was recorded late Monday, April 11th, in Rooks County, the Kansas Geological Survey reported. The 2.4-magnitude quake was detected at 11:36 p.m. Monday in the western part of the county, between Plainville and the Rooks-Graham County line.

Commissioners approve $10.00 fee for swimming lessons

The Stockton City Commission voted to charge $10.00 per person for the week-long swimming lessons to be offered at the Stockton City Pool this summer during their regular meeting held on Tuesday, April 19th. They also asked that Daphne Plumer attend an upcoming meeting to go over the practice schedule for the Tiger Shark Swim Team.
