You can have it my way, or you can have it your way, but you can’t have it both ways! Either way, come see The Bull City Opry Co. presentation of “Haviture Way” during the Alton Jubilee at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 27th, on the outdoor stage, otherwise known as the tennis courts, in Alton, Kansas.

Surprises await you as you get acquainted with the neighbors who live on Haviture Way. Each character is unique and colorful in his or her own way, and not so different than people living on any street in Small Town, USA. They accept each other, tolerate each other, make fun of each other, and laugh their way through each crisis that comes along. This year there are 12 talented cast members and one musician in the play. Several members of the Opry Co. were in the original play 27 years ago. Some new faces have been added, all with the same goal in mind…to make you laugh. The cast and crew are all volunteers, who give of their time and talents to the community. Other volunteers join in to help set up the elaborate metal support system along the tennis courts, and a few days before the play, help attach the background.

The first background in 1995 was a few discarded panels of stage décor from the Alton/Osborne Jr. High School. Unfortunately, they were destroyed in a windstorm a few years later. Since then, the background has been improved and updated using stronger and more weatherproof materials. This year there will be 35 panels on the lower level and six on the upper level across the entire length of the court.

Rex Johnston oversees the project which takes many hours and a lot of manpower to complete.

Planning and painting the background decor is in the hands of talented local artist, Sheri Beisner. The prop master is Jeanne Becker, who also helps with makeup and hair with assistance from Laney Clark and Shelley Roach.

The original script for the play is written by Jo Peterson to accommodate the cast, but their own flavor of humor brings the characters to life in a lighthearted and wacky way. The family show is appropriate for all ages.

Bring your lawn chairs or sit in the bleachers, (have it your way!) and join the crickets, cicadas, and water tower vultures in the outdoor arena under the stars. Whether you smile, giggle, or laugh out loud, you will enjoy your visit to “Haviture Way” on August 27th at 7:30 p.m. with The Bull City Opry Co. in Alton, Kansas.
