School is out so another year of the Summer Food Service Program begins next Monday, May 24th. The Summer Food Service Program provides lunch and next day’s breakfast to all children ages 1 to 18 years of age.

The Stockton Public Library is gearing up for five weeks of fun activities starting Wednesday, June 2nd. Come in and sign up NOW to enjoy the summer program, “Tails and Tales!” (Look for the ad in this week’s edition.).

There will be a government surplus commodities distribution on Monday, May 24th for those in the Stockton and Plainville areas. In Stockton, the distribution will be held on Monday, May 24th from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the VFW Hall. You are asked to please enter through the front door at 314 Main Street.

The Stockton United Methodist Church (204 North Elm) is excited to share that Mike and Glenda Mann will be back this summer for their Vacation Bible School (V.B.S.) starting on Monday, June 7th through Friday, June 11th. The school will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. each morning and is open from ages four years old through sixth-grade. The program is “Let Me Tell You Who Jesus Is!” The Manns will incorporate illusions, puppets, music, storytelling and balloons throughout the week with the closing program scheduled for Friday, June 11th at 7:00 p.m.

The menus for the week beginning Monday, May 17th, are as follows: Monday—Chicken strips, mashed potatoes and gravy, peas and carrots, bread, peaches. Tuesday—Spanish rice with hamburger, mexi corn, bread, applesauce. Wednesday—Hamburger with lettuce, tomato and onion, three bean salad, bun, tropical fruit. Thursday—Turkey tetrazzini, sweet potatoes, bread, pineapple upside down cake. Friday—Baked fish, scalloped potatoes, Italian blend vegetables, bread, mandarin oranges.

The peonies are doing their part and should be in full bloom for the occasion, so please join the Stockton Area Chamber of Commerce by participating in one or all of the events that have been planned for the annual Peony Festival to be held on Saturday, May 29th.

In honor of Armed Forces Day, the Stockton VFW Post 8873 will be hosting a Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, May 15th from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. On the menu are pancakes, eggs, sausage links, coffee, juice and milk with the price set at $5.00 per person.

It’s city-wide garage sale time! Stockton is once again participating in the Highway 24 Garage Sale. The three-day event runs from Friday through Sunday, June 4th, 5th and 6th.

On behalf of the Woodston Alumni Association, Darrell Rubottom will hold a brief memorial service on Sunday, May 30th at 2:00 p.m. at the site of the old high school. This is to honor those alumni who have died since May 1919. No official meeting will be conducted. There will be NO meal or refreshments.
