Large turnout for Rooks County in Tuesday's Primary Election

After the votes were tallied just before midnight in Tuesday's Primary Election, vote numbers provided by Rooks County Clerk Ruthmary Muir showed 45% of the county's 3,858 registered voters checking in at the polls.

There are a total of 235 who are registered as Advanced Voters in Rooks County. A whopping 90% of those (211) voted in this Primary.

According to Muir, in 2016, Rooks County had a registered voter turnout of 39%, while 2018 showed 30%. So as you can see, many in Rooks County voted in this year's Primary Election.

Governor gives statement after State Board of Education vote to reject delay of school executive order

The following statement released on July 22nd, is from Governor Laura Kelly regarding the State of Board of Education’s vote to reject her executive order delaying the start of school: “The cases of COVID-19 in Kansas are at an all-time high and continue to rise. Our decisions must be informed by public health experts, not politics. This vote puts our students, faculty, their families and our economy at risk. I will continue to work with our school districts to ensure the safety and well being of our children and ask every school district to delay the start of school.”

56 Kansas Cities and Counties to receive Community Development Block Grants to support Coronavirus response

The City of Stockton, City of Damar, and Rooks County will both benefit from the second round of Community Development Block Grant Coronavius Response Supplement (CDBG-CV) funds issued recently. Last Thursday Governor Laura Kelly announced the recipients of the second round of CDBG-CV funds, and Stockton, Damar and Rooks County were among the 56 Kansas communities named.

County notified of stolen pickup from road and bridge department

Noxious weed supervisor Mike Klein was at the regular weekly meeting of the Rooks County Commission meeting held on Tuesday, July 21st to talk to the commissioners about changing the roadside truck driving job in his department to a seasonal position. He also asked if the County had any type of cell phone policy.
