With the primary election just around the corner on Tuesday, August 4th, the Stockton Sentinel sent out questionnaires to the candidates in contested races. Answering the questionnaires are incumbent Douglas (Doug) E. Bigge and Nolan Weiser for District Magistrate Judge, 23 District, Position 2; incumbent John J. Ruder and Ernest J. Hammerschmidt, Jr. for Rooks County Com missioner District 2; and incumbent Corky Hagan and Tim J. Berland for Rooks County Commissioner, District 3.

Rooks County 4-H & FFA Fair set for next week

With the hard decision the Fair Board made to cancel the commercial side of the Rooks County Free Fair due to COVID-19 this year, there is still some excitement for the 4-H and FFA boys and girls since there will be a 4-H and FFA Fair! This means their crafts, livestock, foods, arts, photography, etc. they worked so hard on throughout the year can still be judged.

Confirmed COVID-19 case at Norton Correctional Facility's Stockton Satellite Facility

Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC) Secretary Jeff Zmuda announced Thursday that one resident at the Norton Correctional Facility’s (NCF) Stockton Satellite Facility tested positive for COVID-19. This is the eighth KDOC facility with a confirmed case, with the first cases reported at Lansing Correctional Facility (LCF), Wichita Work Release Facility, Topeka Correctional Facility, Kansas Juvenile Correctional Complex, El Dorado Correctional Facility, Ellsworth Correctional Facility and Hutchinson Correctional Facility.

Charges had been filed by the state following the investigation of a fatality traffic accident June 11, 2006, six miles north of Plainville on Highway 183. Jessica Y. Jones, 43, of Phillipsburg lost her life in the 5:30 a.m. head-on collision. The other driver, Clifford A. Ehrlich, 37, of Stockton, was Life Flighted to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, with broken bones and lacerations. Ehrlich was charged July 14 with Involuntary Manslaughter While Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs, a felony; DUI (3rd conviction), also a felony; Transporting An Open Container; and Driving On Left Side of Roadway. He and his counsel stood before District Judge Edward E. Bouker on July 19th for a bond hearing. Bond was set at $25,000, with conditions.

Linda Melton left early Monday morning, July 13, to drive to a farm auction of some former neighbors in the Industry Community of Dickinson County. Catching up with neighbors and some classmates was great even though the hot temperatures made it miserable.
