The Stockton Lady Tigers picked up their sixth win of the season with a 43-28 victory over the Plainville Lady Cardinals in the Mid-Continent League match-up last Tuesday in Plainville. Plainville got on the scoreboard first with a basket by Emily Stamper, but Ava Dix scored on back-to-back shots to give the Lady Tigers a 4-2 lead.
Stockton Junior High had four wrestlers place at the 2023 Mid-Continent Elementary League Wrestling Tournament held last Friday in WaKeeney. Tanner Post was fourth at 285, Mia Odle and Shae Yohon were third at 110 and 145, respectively, and Aidyen Kerr and Tanner Post were fourth at 125 and 285, respectively. Others competing but not placing were: Vinny Thayer (105), Isaac Thayer (175) and Kaley Jones (105).
Carolina Northup, Ashlyn Hahn and Rivver Long will be competing in the KSHSAA Girls 4-3-2-1A State Wrestling Tournament in Salina. The event will be held at the Salina Tony’s Pizza Events Center this Wednesday and Thursday.
The Stockton Tigers hosted the Oakley Plainsmen last Friday in their final home game of the season. Unfortunately, the visitors went back home with two victories as the Lady Tigers fell 46-35, and the Tiger Boys were defeated 77-16.
Emerson Lowry fell just short of making a return trip to the state wrestling tourney after he lost a 5-2 decision to Shane Todd of St. Francis in the consolation semifinals of the KSHSAA 3-2-1A Regional Wrestling Tournament held at Beloit on Saturday. Lowry went 3-2 on the day, with his three wins coming on two falls and an 11-4 decision. His two losses could have gone either way as he lost a 5-4 decision to Tyler Ashbaugh of Hill City, and the 5-2 decision to Todd, which eliminated him from the tourney. Lowry, who wrestled at 126, finished the season with a record of 18-17.
