Stockton woman facing four drug charges

Brenna M. Bouchey, 34, of Stockton, was charged on October 10, 2024, with four counts related to the seizure of methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia from her residence in Stockton on July 26, 2024.

School Board approves hiring of coaches

At the end of the regular meeting of the Stockton Unified School District No. 271 Board of Education, held on Monday, October 7th, the board members moved to hire Matteson Brownell as the high school girls head basketball coach and Aftan Green as the junior high assistant boys basketball coach after three executive sessions were held to discuss non-elected personnel. They also accepted the resignation from Rhonda Walker as a cook. Clerk Annette Look was in attendance for one of the sessions.

As of Monday, October 14th, the Stockton Farmers Union Elevator has taken in 45,000 bushels of beans, with the Woodston Coop taking 26,000 bushels. This is over 200% of last year’s crop.

This summer, the Berkley family joined the prestigious list of recipients for the Century of Family Banking Award presented by the Kansas Bankers Association. The family’s banking legacy, values, and commitment to its community began in 1924 when Howard Jackson (HJ) Berkley began working at The Bank of Tescott as a cashier and janitor.

HCF welcomes Deanna Hammerschmidt as Rooks County Development Director

The Heartland Community Foundation (HCF) is excited to announce Deanna Hammerschmidt's appointment as the new Rooks County Development Director. Deanna brings extensive experience in marketing, public relations, and community engagement to her new role. Originally from Ellsworth, Deanna moved to Plainville in 2006 after earning a degree in Integrated Marketing Communication from Wichita State University. She spent a decade working in marketing and public relations for Dessin Fournir before serving as the assistant director of annual giving at the Fort Hays State University Foundation. In 2018, Deanna shifted careers by purchasing the Mill Street Market flower and gift shop, where she built strong connections with families and customers throughout all of Rooks County. She will draw on these relationships and her diverse professional background in this new role.

Tentative date set to meet with Smithfield representatives

County attorney Danielle Muir was at the Rooks County Commission meeting held on Tuesday, October 8th, to inform the commissioners of her phone meeting with Smithfield representatives. Muir stated that on September 20th, she had contacted Senator Jerry Moran’s Office, which put her in touch with Smithfield for an introduction.
