TRUE TREASURE. It was a silent movie, but a blockbuster, when released in 1923. Directed by Cecil B. Demille, who also directed the 1956 version, "The Ten Commandments" was filmed, in part, in the Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes in southern California. The huge sets mimicked Egypt, complete with 110 foot walls/gates, 35-foottall pharaoh statues, and large sphinxes, and were amazing for the time. After shooting finished, the sets were demolished and buried in the sand. It was 2012 when some people started seeking for the buried treasure. And they found it. Each digging permit cost about $135,000 but they actually found various items that were buried in 1923 including a sphinx head in great condition. They set their minds to find treasure, paid the price for the right to do so, and had success. Good for them. However, there's a far greater treasure that anyone and everyone can find—if they seek it. And it costs nothing. Except humility. God tells us in Isaiah 55:1-2, "Ho! Everyone who thirsts, Come to the waters; And you who have no money, Come, buy and eat." The context is clearly spiritual in nature as seen in Isaiah 55:6 which says, "Seek the LORD while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near." David Berkowitz, the Son of Sam, killed six people and wounded nine others in 1976-77. It was my senior year. His tragic childhood likely played a part in his mental instability. He's still in prison. In 1987, he presumably found Jesus Christ. His testimony is: "I believe with all my heart that I have found what I have been searching for all my life. I have discovered that Jesus Christ is this True Treasure! There are many treasures buried in the earth or hidden on its surface. But now I know that there is one Treasure which is above all others." I have no clue as to his soul's condition. God knows. The Ten Commandments can't save. They only condemn. But Jesus truly is the True Treasure for those who find Him!
