Condolences to the McDowell family on the passing of Mary Elaine McDowell Lawson, age 70, of Hays, on January 16, 2022. Mary’s parents were Myron and Gladys McDowell and she attended school at Woodston and Stockton, growing up on the farm northeast of Stockton.

Condolences to the Chesney family for Earl Chesney, age 71, of Natoma, who passed away January 16, 2022 at Redbud Village in Plainville. Earl’s parents were Homer and Eileen Meyers Chesney and he attended Natoma schools.

I escaped the cold a few days last week and farm chores from Wednesday to Saturday morning by driving to Riley. I went to assist my sister, Norma Sharp, after her accident the week before. I also had a short visit with both her daughters, Carrie Allison of Scurrey, Texas, and Kim Simon of Des Moines, Iowa. Steve may have missed his chore gal but I know for sure the dog and cat gave me a big welcome home. I also received word that our cousin, Harry Stillwagon, had heart surgery Monday, January 16, at Alexandria, Louisiana.

Belated Happy Birthday wishes to Steve’s sister, Avonne Rubottom, on her 77th birthday Saturday, January 22.

Cedar Christian Church

On a sunny warmer winter morning, January 16, Kirby Mullen rang the Cedar Christian Church bell to begin worship service. Hymns chosen by Peggy Mullen were: “To God Be The Glory,” “Open My Eyes,” “There Is A Fountain” and “All The Way My Savior Leads Me.”

Darel Boston read scripture from Romans 13:1-7. Steven Melton gathered the offering. Prayer concerns were for Rhonda Gibson, Norma Sharp, Larry Enfield, Rachel Landon and our country. Darel led us in a silent prayer and the “Lord’s Prayer” was recited in unison. Kirby and Steven served Communion. For special music, “This Little Light Of Mine” was sung. Darel spoke about it being tax preparing time. A missionary once stated he didn’t mind paying taxes. He had served in a country that did not have taxes and as a result they had nothing. No roads, no electricity, nothing. We need to appreciate so much more of what we have in our country and pay our taxes. Romans 13:8 states, ”Owe no man anything, but to love one another; for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law”. Allen Kendall of Norton was Darel’s guest.

Worship service Sunday morning, January 23, began with Kirby Mullen ringing the church bell. Our hymns chosen by Peggy Mullen were: “We’re Marching To Zion”, “Tell It To Jesus,” “In The Cross of Christ” and “We’ve A Story To Tell.” Steven Melton gathered the offering. Prayer concerns were for: Shane Mullen, Rhonda Gibson, Norma Sharp, Harry Stillwagon, Larry Enfield family and our schools and country. Darel Boston read scripture Psalm 90, the Prayer of Moses. The “Lord’s Prayer” was recited in unison. Kirby and Steven served communion. Darel’s message was on “Our Forever God.” We should not be afraid to share with our children and grandchildren what God and having faith in God has meant in our lives. Sympathy is extended to Darel and his family on the passing of his son-in-law, Larry Enfield, of Norton. Services will be held Thursday, January 27. Allen Kendall of Norton was a guest.
