Celebrating Catholic Schools Week: A Heartfelt Tribute to Community and Faith

Body
From January 25th to January 30th, Sacred Heart Catholic School in Plainville embraced the spirit of Catholic Schools Week with a series of heartfelt activities that celebrated family, community, vocations, staff, and students. This year's theme emphasized the profound impact of Catholic education, culminating in a week filled with reflection, appreciation, and fun.
SACRED HEART SCHOOL STUDENTS raised $105.00 for Plainville’s “The Yard” project during Catholic Schools Week. The boys and girls also celebrated Kansas Day by crafting decoupaged box turtles in honor of the state's designated reptile, and designed their own “Faith” t-shirts as some of the many projects they did throughout the week.

The Excitement Builds: Still Awaiting Rooks County’s First Baby of 2026!

Body
We’ve now reached February, and the anticipation continues in the air as the community eagerly awaits the arrival of the very first baby of 2026! While our eyes are on the calendar and the phones are close at hand, the Sentinel-Times wants to remind everyone that next year, the contest will expand to include all of Rooks County. Due to the recent merger of the two newspapers at the start of this year, there simply wasn’t enough time to organize a county-wide contest, so for now, we are continuing the tradition as in previous years—watching and waiting for that special little arrival.

Well, folks, it’s Sunday. The day when the temperature hits a glorious 57ish degrees, just enough to make you think spring is finally here. But, not enough to actually do anything about it. Meanwhile, my outside “mouse catching” cats are busy taking a long, well-deserved nap. Apparently, their job description includes “pretending to work.” So, here I am, hosting a tiny, uninvited guest in the house. A mouse who’s clearly under the impression that this is his new vacation spot. I haven’t seen it and hope it stays that way. But fear not! Come Monday, I’ll be hitting the road with my bestie, Jan Mauck. We will be heading to Salina for a little adventure at Aldi’s. Because nothing says Sunday relaxation like planning a grocery trip and plotting the Great Mouse Escape. Stay tuned for the epic saga of me, Jan, and the mouse that almost outsmarted us all! The hall closet is almost finished! Just a little more caulking, and I promise, it’ll be as perfect as a Pinterest dream. Then it’s time to unleash my inner interior designer and fill that baby up! Yes, you can totally decorate a closet, for those of you wondering. Because what’s life without a little closet couture? Soon, it’ll be the most stylish storage space in the house. Complete with some tiny fairy lights, a few decorative baskets, and perhaps a mini chandelier for that touch of glam. Stay tuned! I might even start a new trend!
