How far would you be willing to go if threatened with imprisonment for preaching the Word of God? Last week we mentioned that the apostle Paul knew he would be imprisoned in Jerusalem, but his desire to please God overshadowed his desire to avoid hardship or suffering. Christians in Jerusalem were waiting for him with great anticipation, and he was going to meet their needs. But as expected, there were those in attendance who would challenge him.

“One does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.” In Sunday’s Gospel reading from Matthew 4:1-11, we read that Jesus fasted and prayed for 40 days in the desert, where He was tempted by the devil. The devil presents three temptations to Jesus: he tempts Jesus to use His power to appease His hunger; he tempts Jesus to put God’s promise of protection to the test; and he offers Jesus all the kingdoms of the world if Jesus will worship the devil.

Happy Sunday from the lovely town of Basehor, Kansas! I will be spending an entire week with my wonderful Aunt Kay, who will graciously host me and likely insist that I finally master the art of sewing. Although I suspect she’ll mainly be trying to keep me busy so she can sneak off for a well-deserved nap herself. I’ll be diving into a whirlwind of fabric, laughter, and maybe some questionable stitches, but I’ll be determined to channel my inner seamstress. I have my sewing machine ready, a mountain of fabric, and a heart full of good intentions. Plus a craving for a nap because, let’s be honest, all this sewing talk will probably be pretty exhausting. Stay tuned for more tales of my upcoming crafty, creative chaos and most definitely, a few more naps along the way!

There’s a routine to spring calving season based on numbers. Once tiny hooves start hitting the cold ground, a rhythm takes over until the last mama cow has delivered her baby. Each day is different, but they’re all based on counting.

This special event had been in the works for over six months, and its timing couldn’t have been more perfect.
