The 38th annual Parade of Christmas Trees at the Stockton Public Library is just around the corner, so it is time to start thinking of ideas and getting ready for this very special holiday event. The Chamber is asking for the town’s help to make this display a success by having organizations, businesses, classes or individuals decorate a tree.

Nova Theatre holding its annual fundraiser

It’s that time of year for Stockton’s historic Nova Theatre to hold its annual fundraiser, which helps keep the facility a viable part of our community. This year’s donations will go toward the remainder of the microphone and sound system that was started during last year’s fundraiser.

Veterans serving Vittles at Stockton VFW on Election Day

The Stockton VFW Post 8873 and Auxiliary are encouraging everyone to get out and vote on Tuesday, November 8th. Honor a veteran’s service by casting your ballot and then help the veterans with their projects by coming to the Stockton VFW from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and enjoy a lunch of ham and bean, vegetable beef, and chicken noodle soup with homemade cornbread, dessert and drink for $8.00. And don’t forget to buy your poppy to help our disabled veterans.

Contracts approved at special school board meeting

A special Stockton USD 271 school board meeting was held on Monday, October 17th during the noon hour. After the board members present and superintendent Sarah Armstrong came out of the executive session to discuss supplemental contracts they approved the following as presented: Don Moffet as head high school boys basketball coach, Trevor Miller as assistant high school boys basketball coach, Janet Kuhlmann as assistant high school girls basketball coach, Ray Niblock as head junior high boys basketball coach, and Troy Rogers as assistant junior high boys basketball coach.

SHS Homecoming float and game winners

There was fierce competition in the class floats at this year’s SHS Homecoming Parade with the Juniors coming out on top with the first place win! The Seniors placed second, followed by the Freshmen and Sophomores. The first place Community Float was “Devil Went Down To Stockton.”

First of all, let me express my apprecitation for the fine example of 'HOME TOWN REPORTING' I receive from you every week. I left Stockton in 1946 or 1947 and have taken the Sentinel (or whatever it was named at the time) ever since. My problem is with your not using a correct address when mailing to me. PLEASE CORRECT TO: 2300 N. TYLER Rd. #318, WICHITA, KS 67205-8772. This correction will no doubt soothe the temperature of the postal workers who have no doubt been stressed by the task of the extra effort of adding the correction in this area of the front page and perhaps covering some portion of the original publication.
