Siblings Joel and Sara McReynolds attained the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro on August 26th when Joel McReynolds PA-C and Dr. Mark Meyer were on a medical mission trip to Tanzania. Joel asked his sister if she wanted to go along, and she told him she wanted to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro with him while they were there.

Chuck Hageman was honored during his retirement party for his 60 years of service to the Stockton Rotary Club. He also had the distinction of being the longest-serving member of the organization. The members saluting Hageman at the Carousel Bakery & Café were Greg Beougher, James Berkley, Darrell Sammons, Glenn Sears, Dale Winklepleck, Craig Iwanski, Mark Lowry, and Francis Mahoney.

What Was Going On 14 Years Ago Fourteen-year-old Melissa “Missy” Steinberger of Colorado Springs, Colo., while competing in the third motorcycle race of the Rooks County Free Fair event, lost control of her cycle at a high rate of speed, leaving her with serious injuries that could have proven fatal if not for some “Luck.” She lost control of her bike on the front straightaway and slammed into the side guardrail of the track just before turn number one, flipping her and her motorcycle numerous times. Fortunately, she had missed the power pole near the initial impact.

The Rooks County population figures showed the most significant exodus in one year, with the County down 127 residents. A women’s bowling team, sponsored by Sharon’s Korner Kitchen of Peabody, took third in a national competition.

What Was Going On 14 Years Ago The entire Stockton area was saddened when they heard of the tragic drowning accident, which took the life of three-year-old Phoenix Wise, son of Brian and Nicole Wise. For the second consecutive year, a Stockton Grade School student claimed the honor of bringing home the Kansas State winner of the “Fight the Bite” art poster contest.

The Rooks County Health Department received a plaque of appreciation for their excellent service in the Novel H1N1 Influenza vaccine during the 2009 pandemic. Lisa Gilmore, health nurse Lorraine Baughman, Joni Bellerive, Liz Hainke, Lori Eichman, and commissioners Bob Schamel, John Ruder, and Ted Lambert were on hand to receive the plaque.
