Starting on July 1st, Kansas was to become the latest state to outlaw smoking in restaurants, bars, and workplaces. The landmark move was made on February 25th, when the Kansas House voted to send a statewide smoking ban to Governor Mark Parkinson, who promised to sign it into law.

* Stockton High School wrestler Carlos Gallaway was headed to the State Wrestling Tournament in Hays.

The Bluegrass trio Two Bits A Gander was set to perform at the Nova Theatre in March. Josh Price, a former Stocktonite, was one-third of the group.

Scoutmaster Misty Higdon received the Boy Scout Wheatland District Award of Merit, the highest award given in Scouting at the annual Baden Powell Banquet held in Hays.

What Was Going On 14 Years Ago Hope Turnbull was the Stockton Grade School Spelling Bee champion, with Cecelia Back as runner- up. After purchasing Nick Lowe’s business shares, Rusty and Cheryl Hrabe became the sole owners of Webster’s Supermarket.

What Was Going On 14 Years Ago The Stockton Tigers were the runners-up in the 2010 Mid-Continent League Basketball Tournament.

Miss Brecklyn Andraea Zizz was the Sentinel’s New Year’s Baby, who arrived on January 13th to parents Heidi and Joe Zizz. Gina Deutscher represented the Stockton Booster Club at the school board meeting.

The SHS 2009 Snoball took place on December 19th, and after the votes were counted, Stephen Moll was crowned King and Brenna Schlaegel as queen. Attendants were Carlee Lindsey, Scott Voss, Sage Penner, and Amber Kriley.

Loren Goodheart became a great-grandfather with the birth of Braelyn Rae Blackwill on November 18th. The family gathered at Thanksgiving and took a four-generation picture with Maxine Goodheart of Russell, 91, Loren Goodheart of Stockton, Jill and Trevor Blackwill, and little Miss Braelyn Rae.

Another gremlin is at work at the Stockton Sentinel because there is no 2009 December issue to be found to get information for this week’s “14 Years Ago” article. Hopefully, these gremlins are done messing with us for the rest of the year!
