What Was Going On 14 Years Ago
The Stockton Tiger eighth-grade boys finished the 2010-2011 basketball season undefeated and winning the Mid-Continent Elementary League Basketball Championship. Members of the team were Casey Deutscher, Jaden Williams, Justin Wiltfong, Andrew Bellerive, Kale Kuhlmann, Richard Schleicher, Cayden Conyac, Tyler Williams, Erik Scott, Christian Hamel, assistant coach Ron Storz, and head coach Joe Weidenhaft.
Stockton Tiger Senior Diego Gallaway placed first at the Russell Round Robin Wrestling Tournament.
Bob and Kathy Atkisson had attended the Kansas Association of Fairs and Festivals in Topeka. Bob and Kathy represented the Nicodemus Homecoming Celebration. While at the convention Bob was elected President of the Association to serve a oneyear term.
At the Ellis Open, Stockton Wrestling Club member, Joel Green placed first for the Tigers, with Landon Riffel and Kamden Winters placing second.
Looking Back 14 Years Ago (1997)—Sworn in as Rooks County Officials were magistrate judge Douglas E. Bigge, commissioners Gary LeRock and Ted Lambert, county attorney Leonard J. Dix, sheriff Dave Denton, register of deeds Rosalee Sprick, treasurer Eleanor Buss, and clerk Clara Strutt. Bill Dibble picked up a rare 7-10 split at 183 Lanes; one of only three recorded at the alley during the last 15 years.
56 Years Ago, Spotlighting the Year 1955—The Stockton Livestock Commission had its biggest sale, running through 400 head of cattle for a total of $39,000.00. In a telephone conversation from Washington, D.C. with Congressman Wint Smith, the Record learned that President Eisenhower had asked in his budget for three and a half million dollars to complete the Webster Dam project.
What Stocktonites Were Doing 98 Years Ago in 1913—There is to be another pie social at the Carl Jones Schoolhouse next Friday night with the proceeds to help purchase an organ for the school. J. H. Sammons lost two head of cattle and Harvey South lost four head of cattle a short time ago from the effects of eating cornstalks. W. W. Marshall took possession of the Joe Davis Feed Store and will carry a full line of Jackson Flour, Meal & Graham, together with all kinds of seed and baled hay.
Marjorie Lee Farr (1924), Ralph C. Hansen (1924), Clarita Weigel-Mahoney (1934), Richard A. Blakeley (1929) Ruby Marie Klause (1929), and Juanita Jerby (1927) passed away.
The Nova Theatre held over the movie, “True Grit” for a second big week.
