LIFE. It comes from God for He is the One "who gives life to all" (1 Tim. 6:13). But everyone whom God has ordained to be conceived were actually so ordained in eternity past. God told Jeremiah, "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you" (Jer. 1:5). And God forms each person as He sees fit. David, speaking to God, wrote, "For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb" (Psa. 139:13-14). The OT Jews valued life because their God created life. That's why it seems so odd that God commanded them, "And you shall not let any of your descendants pass through the fire to Molech" (Lev. 18:21). However, God knows the hearts of sinners. About 1,000 years after this command, God told His prophet Ezekiel to write: "(the Jews) even sacrificed their sons whom they bore to Me, passing them through the fire, to devour them...For after they had slain their children for their idols, on the same day they came into My sanctuary to profane it" (Ezek. 23:37,39). How could Jews become so abominable as to kill their own children? It happened "slowly by slowly" as they rejected God, His holiness, and His Word. They thumbed their nose at God while putting on a pretense of still worshiping Him. They had religion (the worship of Molech) while pretending to worship Jehovah God. The reality was that "They served their idols, Which became a snare to them. They even sacrificed their sons And their daughters to demons, And shed innocent blood, The blood of their sons and daughters, Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan; And the land was polluted with blood" (Psa. 106:36-38). The Psalmist then added, "Therefore the wrath of the LORD was kindled against His people, So that He abhorred His own inheritance" (v. 40). When any people turn away from God's morality, God's judgment follows. God created life. But depraved hearts, over time, can certainly stop valuing life and start doing the unimaginable.
