My Olympic Hero

Body
My Olympic Hero With the 2024 Summer Olympics starting this Friday, the question arises-"Who will be the breakout stars or heroes this time around?” Will the phenomenal perfor- mances and gold medal wins come in gymnastics, div - ing, swimming, track and field, equestrian, weightlifting, or one of the many other sports the athletes from around the world will compete in? The one to beat is Michael Phelps, with 28 gold med - als in swimming (23 individual and five in relays), making him the most decorated Olympian ever. However, even though I have watched and cheered for Phelps through - out his Olympic career starting in 2000, he is not my fa vorite Olympian! My hero is considered to be the first swimming super - star -Johnny Weissmuller.

This And That * Who is shaking their head and agreeing with this? “Back in my day, we didn’t have cup holders. We had to hold our beer bottles between our legs and drive.” * Who gets this one? Job Interviewer: If there was a problem, how would you solve it?” Answer: “Check out the hook and let the DJ revolve it!” * Does this happen to you? Chasing The Story

Body
Chasing The Story It was a Monday, a day like any other day, when I got a call from Patty Jackson about a man walking barefoot across the United States. She met him at Malee’s restaurant in Stockton and thought he would make an excellent human-interest story for the Sentinel.

All In Thinking We Can

Body
All In Thinking We Can (This article is taken from the 1930 Rooks County Record and Stockton Review.) The amount of progress a town makes and its ability to grow and prosper does not depend on its location or any exterior force. It depends more than any other one thing upon the attitude of mind and the spirit of its citizens.

Body
Guest Editorial By Jody Boulay It seems as if every community, big or small, has been impacted by the problems associated with substance use and drug overdose. Within these communities, these problems extend into the family unit, with people becoming addicted and dying because of drugs.

This And That * Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Christmas, but I still don’t know why we have to celebrate Christmas in July just because that’s been a thing for so long. And now Hallmark is creeping into June with a week’s worth of their Christmas movies! Plus, they already show Christmas movies once a week throughout the year.

This And That * There was an Isiah Pacheco Youth Football Camp in Wichita at the Stryker Sports Complex on Thursday, May 23rd, and one on Friday, May 24th, at Blue Valley Southwest High School in Overland Park, and nobody told me! Of course, you had to be between the ages of six to 16, but I don’t think that would have stopped me! * I need to try this hack. Pour a package of any flavor of Kool-Aid into a chilled carton of Simply Lemonade for a cool summertime drink! I think I will try strawberry Kool-Aid.
