Robert Edward Struckhoff, age 80, of Athol, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2022, at Smith Center Health and Rehabilitation.

He was born in Denver, Colorado, on November 25, 1942, to Eddie and Geneva Struckhoff. Bob was the first of six children.

Bob graduated from Kensington High School in 1960. He married Barbara Norton on June 24, 1962, in the United Methodist Church of Franklin, Nebraska. To this union, two boys were born, John Edward Struckhoff and James Jay Struckhoff.

Eugene “Gene” Bernard Hamel was born January 16, 1938, in Chewelah, Washington. He was the third child born to Albert and Rosa (Desaire) Hamel. He died November 29, 2022, in Stockton, Kansas. He lived a full life, 84 years of memories filled with family, faith, military, farming, and teaching. His family had moved to Washington to help Gene’s uncle in the forestry business. But after a short time, they returned to their Damar, Kansas roots and settled on a farm a few miles north of Damar nestled on the banks of the South Solomon River.

Janet Jean (Barnett) Koster was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Edward J. and Pearl Gay (Elliott) Barnett on April 18, 1934. She died on November 10, 2022, at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas, at the age of 88.

When she was four years old, her family moved to Concordia, Kansas, and lived several places as her dad worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad. She attended schools in Concordia, Lenora, Stockton, Downs, and Cawker City, and graduated from Cawker City High School in 1952. Following graduation, she worked at the Barnett Company as a bookkeeper.

She was born July 19, 1991, in Hays, the daughter of Kris A. and Michelle Renee (Dreiling) Desbien. In 2009, she graduated from Hays High School then attended Fort Hays State University and Kansas State University, pursuing a kinesiology degree. Brooke was a loving caregiver and stay at home mom who put others’ needs ahead of her own. Brooke loved animals and children, was a talented crafter, phenomenal artist, and expressed herself and her love for others through her writing.
