Daryl Lynn Novotny, age 81, of Stockton, passed away on January 4, 2023, at the Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney, Neb., at the age of 81.

He was born on June 15, 1941, to Ludvik and Zella “Sally” (Drennan) Novotny in Stockton. He married Pamela Kiehne on May 27, 1962, in Chicago, Ill. They were blessed with one son, Scott. After Pam passed away in 1994, Daryl married Patty A. Hill on September 16, 2006, in Smith Center, blessing him with four step-children, Troy, Todd, Travis, and Tamatha.

Robert E. “Bob” McCall, of Woodston, Kansas, passed away on January 4, 2023, at the Parkview Care Center in Osborne, Kansas, at the age of 100.

He was born on November 29, 1922, to Henry and Emma (Vanderlip) McCall in Ash Rock Township north of Woodston. He was married on February 14, 1943, to Evelyn (Melton) McCall. She passed away in 1998. On September 3, 2000, Bob married Edna (Dibble) Taylor in Stockton, Kansas.

Carol “Ann” Barnett, age 78, of Concordia, Kansas passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2022, at Sunset Nursing Home, Concordia. 

She was born on March 2, 1944 in Superior, Neb., to Delbert J. and E. Carol (Gridley) Jeppesen.

She graduated from Ruskin High School in 1963. She married Ben “Gene” Barnett on August 20, 1967 and he preceded her on October 14, 2016. To this union were born three children.

Refinna Ladean “Betty” Keyes, of Plainville, passed away on January 1, 2023, at the Phillips County Retirement Center in Phillipsburg at the age of 75.

She was born on February 27, 1947, to Levi Bassel and Mary Alice (Reynolds) Hoskins in Enid, Okla. She was married to Stanley Keyes in 1967. They were blessed with five children: James, Jerry, Brenda, Teresa, and Teri.

Betty enjoyed crocheting, quilting, sewing, and loved reading novels and playing Bingo. She didn’t know a stranger and could sit and talk with anyone.

Dorothy Lea (Wagner) Voss, 85, passed away December 31, 2022, at the Graham County Hospital in Hill City.

She was born October 26, 1937, at her home in rural Graham County, Kansas, to Russell and Lila Grace (Crawford) Wagner. She was the middle of five children.

Dorothy graduated from Edmond High School in 1955. After attending Kansas University for one year, Dorothy moved back to Graham County and accepted a position with the Graham County ASC office. She continued to work there for a short time after she was married.

Carol Kay Whisman of Palco, KS, passed away on December 31, 2022, at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville, Kan., surrounded by family after a long battle with cancer, at the age of 70. She was born on September 2, 1952, in Hays, Kan., to George and Berdena (Veatch) Whisman. She was united in marriage to Jack Dean in Mankato, Kan. in 1986. They later divorced.

Glenn E. Crawford, age 82, of Natoma, passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays.

He was born Nov. 26, 1940, on the family farm in Osborne County. He was the son of Lloyd and Lucy (Robertson) Crawford. He grew up on a farm northeast of Natoma and graduated from Natoma High School in 1958.

Clifford Harry Winters, age 78, passed away on December 29, 2022, at Salina Regional Health Center.

He was born September 29, 1944, in Concordia, to Mark and Mabel Winters. Cliff attended school in Aurora and graduated from Miltonvale in 1962.

Clifford was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Ron, Dave and Nick, special Aunt Mildred Wren, and first wife, Veronica.

Lola Marie (Nickles) Simon, of Plainville, passed away on December 26, 2022, at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville, at the age of 95.

She was born on November 12, 1927, to Clarence and Gladys (Buffington) Nickles in Furley, Kansas. She married James W. Simon on August 7, 1948, in Wichita, KS. They were blessed with three children: Mike, Jolene, and Stanley.

Lola grew up on a farm near Valley Center and graduated from Valley Center High School in 1945. She was a cook at the Zurich Grade School for many years.

Billye June (Clark) Yowell was born on July 22, 1935, in Penokee and died on Dec. 27, 2022, at her home in Delphos. Billye was the seventh child of 10 to John and Margaret Clark. She attended school in Hill City graduating in 1953.

In 1955 Billye married Raymond Miles Yowell Jr. To this union there were four children: Debra, Charles (Chuck), Clark (Brad) and Rhonda. The family lived on a farm 13 miles north of Ellis and Billye worked at the Ellis Co-Op Hardware Store. Billye and Raymond were divorced in 1986.
