On Wednesday, December 6th, at 1:45 p.m., a semi-truck from Alberta, Canada, passed through Stockton and tangled with the city’s south overhead stoplight at the Intersection of Highway 183 and Highway 24.

It's time to vote for your favorite license plate among five designs created by Mammoth Creative Co., a Kansasbased marketing firm, in partnership with Kansas Tourism for the next official State of Kansas standard issue license plate.

Plan to attend the Farmers National Bank Holiday Open House in Stockton (306 South Cedar Street) on Monday, December 18th, during regular business hours. There will be refreshments of cookies and drinks, plus drawings for prizes at the end of the day.

Stockton City Hall has made some changes in the last few months. The first was the hiring of a new city manager/clerk.

A total of twenty-four Kansas 4-H members, three of which are from the Phillips-Rooks District, have been chosen to have their award-winning photograph displayed on the Kansas State University campus in Manhattan. Their photos were among the more than 2,000 4-H entries at the 2023 Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson.

At the Tuesday meeting on November 28th, the Rooks County Commissioners met with county attorney Danielle Muir to talk about the Resolution for the transfer of Redbud Village to Rooks County Senior Services, Inc. Commissioner Jake Prockish stated he would like to review the feasibility study for a new facility and other information since he wants to be upto- date on this subject as a new commissioner.

Everyone is invited to the Christmas Movie Night Fundraiser at the historic Nova Theatre in Stockton on Thursday, December 14th, to enjoy the classic movie “It’s A Wonderful Life” this holiday season. There will be two FREE showings of the movie at 2:00 p.m.

At the end of their regular meeting on Tuesday, November 28th, the Rooks County Commissioners voted to hire county employee Eric Biggs as the new road and bridge department supervisor to begin his duties on Friday, December 1st. Biggs has worked for the county as head mechanic since March of 2022.

You get to vote on new design As an update to a story in last week’s Sentinel concerning the state’s new license plate, Governor Laura Kelly announced Tuesday, November 28, that the Kansas Department of Revenue will pause production on the license plate design recently revealed and create a process to receive public input before selecting a final design, according to a media release from her office. After the announcement, Kansas State Representative Nick Hoheisel of Wichita heard from many of his constituents who wanted a different design.

It’s the 39th annual Parade of Christmas Trees at the Stockton Public Library! This year many of the decorations for the trees took their inspiration from Stockton’s Olde Tyme Christmas On Gingerbread Lane. Gingerbread men, women, houses and more adorn most of the twenty-five trees on display in the Carnegie Room of the Stockton Public Library this year.
