High winds and freezing rain cause power outages

While the moisture from the freezing rain/snow, which began falling on Monday evening, March 21st and fell steadily until the next morning in Rooks County and surrounding areas, was very much needed, there always seems to be the bad with the good as thousands were affected by the power outages caused by the freezing rain and high winds.

Prairie Land completes repairs on storm outages

Freezing rain and snow arrived early Tuesday morning, March 22nd, in Prairie Land Electric Cooperative, Inc. territory, and when the wind picked up, it began to cause power outages throughout Rooks, Graham and Phillips counties, beginning at 3:07 a.m.

Commissioners informed of interviews and upcoming events

The Stockton City Commission meeting was held on Wednesday, March 23rd, having been rescheduled from the prior Tuesday regular meeting date due to city manager/clerk Courtney Flower and assistant city clerk Kayla Hilbrink being out of town to attend a conference.

Nova Theatre changing to summer movie hours this weekend

The Nova Theatre in Stockton is changing to its SUMMER MOVIE HOURS this weekend, April 1st. The movie times will remain the same on Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:00 p.m. with the change being made on Sundays from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., so that everyone can enjoy those lazy summer Sunday afternoons!

UPDATE: Endangered Persons Advisory canceled

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) has canceled the Endangered Persons Advisory issued for 16-year-old Tia Howard.

The Brown County Sheriff’s Office reported that Tia Howard was located this afternoon in Rulo, Nebraska and is being returned home.
