KDOT announces approved March bids for our area

The Kansas Department of Transportation has announced approved bids for state highway construction and maintenance projects. The letting took place March 16, 2022, in Topeka. Some of the bids may include multiple projects that have been bundled based on proximity and type of work.

Garry Baxter awarded Silver Roger Sherman Medal and Certificate

The Kansas Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) recently held its 139th Conference in Abilene. The conference’s main speaker was Mary Jean Eisenhower, granddaughter of President Dwight (Ike) Eisenhower. Mr. Eisenhower was born in Denison, Texas, and grew up in Abilene, Kansas. He was the supreme commander of the Allied Forces in Western Europe during WWII and served as our 34th president of the United States of America.
GARRY BAXTER was awarded the Silver Roger Sherman Medal and Certificate at the 139th Kansas Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) Conference, which was recently held in Abilene, Kansas.

Stockton City Commissioner Bob Becker has been appointed to a twoyear term on the Kansas League of Municipalities Governing Body. Becker is serving as the Northwest Kansas Area Representative.

Commissioners approve burn ban for county

Body
Emergency management director Butch Post was at the Rooks County Commission meeting, held on Tuesday, April 5th to talk to the commissioners about rescinding the County’s COVID disaster resolution that was put in place on May 29th, 2020. The declaration helped secure COVID supplies and funds for hospitals, etc. while it was in place. The commissioners rescinded the Resolution as noted.

Webster Reservoir Stilling Basin project update

It’s been just under a year ago since the stilling basin at Webster Reservoir, located west of Stockton, was closed to all activities last April 19th, 2021. The location was closed for approximately three years to allow completion of a $22.1 million longterm renovation project, which includes the repairing of the aging spillway chute floor with high-quality concrete. The spillway road was gated off at the 11 Road intersection at that time.
