Former Stockton man loses life in one-vehicle accident

A Kansas man, who spent most of his teen years growing up in and around Stockton, died on Tuesday, June 13, following a one-vehicle accident in Cowley County. Charles Raymond Velz of Winfield, 50, was eastbound on U160 at milepost 316, at 9:25 a.m., when the 2023 Western Star Cement Mixer truck he was driving left the roadway, struck a culvert, and partially overturned in the south ditch.

Flag presentation held at SVM

It was more than fitting that four Stockton VFW Post 8873 veterans held a United States Flag presentation for the residents at Solomon Valley Manor on Flag Day, Wednesday, June 14th. Army veterans John Berkley, Scott Baker, Ed Thayer, and Navy veteran Tim Johnston were on hand during the evening presentation with Baker starting the program by reading about the history and meaning of the Pledge of Allegiance before they led the residents in the reciting of the Pledge.

Matt Whitney meets with county commissioners

Matt Whitney met with the Rooks County Commission on Tuesday, June 13th, to talk about concerns and ask questions of the commissioners. Whitney asked about the mil levy, and if the County would be going revenue neutral to which commissioner John Ruder replied that the Commission is waiting on the county valuations, and then they will meet with the accountant in July to look at the numbers for the upcoming 2024 budget.

Stockton Fire Department called out at 6:12 Thursday evening

The Stockton Fire Department was called to 216 North Elm (Methodist Church) early Thursday evening, at 6:12 p.m. for a power pole on fire.
