Emerson Lowry punches ticket to state wrestling tournament

Stockton High School freshman Emerson Lowry punched his ticket to the KSHSAA Class 3-2-1A State Wrestling Tournament in Hays after placing fourth last Saturday at the regional tourney in Norton. Lowry, who wrestles in the 126-lb. weight class, went 3-2 on the day picking up falls over Braydon Binder of TMP, and Ace Plummer of Oakley in the first two rounds, but losing by a fall to Carson Ochs of Hoxie in the semifinals. Lowry came back to defeat Binder a second time by a fall to assure him a spot at State this Friday and Saturday at Gross Memorial Coliseum. In the third-place match Lowry lost by a fall to Hunter Sisson of Phillipsburg to take fourth place.

SJH Girls all place at MCEL Wrestling Tourney

The Stockton Junior High wrestlers finished their season last Thursday when they competed in the 2022 Mid-Continent Elementary League Wrestling Tournament in Ellis. Each one of the Tiger girls placed in the tourney, with Carolina Northup winning the 85-90 lb. weight class, and Kelsie St. Clair taking first in the 160-175 lb. weight class. Mya Trevino placed second at 115, and Mia Odle was fourth at 100.

Dix reaches 1,000-point milestone

OLIVIA DIX reached the 1,000 career points milestone on February 1 when the Lady Tigers played the Ellis Lady Railers. Dix was recognized for that achievement on February 15 prior to the game with the Plainville Lady Cardinals. Teammates celebrating the occasion with her included, from left: Mackenzie Kester, Ava Dix, Brin Muir, Bodye Stithem, Jalia Creighton, Olivia Dix, Kaelyn Means, Aubrey Kester, Cappi Hoeting, Delanee Bedore (mgr.), Delany Snyder and Michel Smith.

Aaleyah Becker finishes 2nd at Panther Classic

AALEYAH BECKER, a student at Plainville Junior High, recently capped off a successful wrestling season, finishing second (left pic) at the Junior Panther Classic in Phillipsburg, and first (right pic) at the Mid-Continent Elementary League Wrestling Tournament in Ellis. AaLeyah, who competed in the 105-lb. weight class, is the daughter of Ed and Addie Foster of Stockton, and the daughter of Kennis and Kacy Becker of Plainville.

Hahn and Long qualify for State Wrestling Tourney

For the first time in school history, Stockton High School will be sending two female wrestlers to the KSH- SAA Girls 4-3-2-1A State Wrestling Tournament. Freshman Ashlyn Hahn and senior Raven Long will represent the Tigers at the tournament on February 23 and 24 at Tony’s Pizza Events Center in Salina, after placing third and fourth, respectively, at Regionals in Colby last Saturday.

SJH’s Northup and St. Clair first in Jr. Panther Classic

Carolina Northup and Kelsie St. Clair each made the top of the podium at the Junior Panther Classic held last Saturday in Phillipsburg. Northup recorded four falls on the day to win the 90-lb. weight class, while St. Clair, wrestling at 160, went 2-0 with two falls to capture first.
