Former Plainville resident Ruth Alma (Ferland) Rempe, 91, of Leoti, passed away on Monday, February 17, 2025. 

She was born on November 9, 1933, in Damar, Kansas, the sixth of eleven children to Euclide and Marie (Benoit) Ferland. Six siblings have departed, and four surviving siblings include Jackie Steckline, Al Ferland, Loretta Zweifel, and Betty Ferland.

She was born on July 13, 1955, to Delwin and Velma (Meitler) Mendenhall at Plainville Rural Hospital in Plainville. She married Rick McLaughlin on October 21, 1978, at the United Methodist Church in Plainville.

She was born July 6, 1975, in South Carolina, the daughter of Don and Gaylene (Duntz) Loyd. Her family lived in Kirwin, Kansas where she spent her childhood. She was raised in a loving home with her parents and siblings.

Joann Fern Hrabe passed away Monday, February 3, 2025, at the Republic County Hospital in Belleville at the age of 61.

She was born on Friday, December 13, 1963, in Quinter, Kansas, to Leonard and Linda (Bedore) Hrabe. Legend has it that it was 13 below zero, and Joann was a breached baby. 

Leonard, Linda, and Joann moved to Smith Center sometime in 1964 so Leonard could run the creamery store in downtown Smith Center. Joann attended grade school and high school in Smith Center and graduated in 1982.

John Allen Vohs, of Plainville, passed away on February 2, 2025, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas, at the age of 66. 

He was born on October 9, 1958, to Donald G. and Florence "Flossie" Ann (Ruhaak) Vohs in Plainville.

John grew up in Plainville and graduated from Plainville High School in 1976. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from Fort Hays State University.

Charles Donald Casey, 82, passed away on February 2, 2025, at Kansas Christian Home in Newton. 

He was born on January 16, 1943, in Newton, Kansas, the youngest of seven children to Frank and Bertha (Squier) Casey. 

He married Pauline Jean (Bright) on July 4, 1963. She preceded him in death on September 12, 2024. He was also preceded in death by his five sisters and one brother. 

Charles was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Newton.

Robert "Bob" Eugene Williams

Robert "Bob" Eugene Williams, 76, of Stockton, passed away on February 3, 2025, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas. 

He was born on July 17, 1948, to Karl and Quetona (Bird) Williams in Stockton, where he lived his entire life. 

Bob married the love of his life, Nancy Atwill, on April 3, 1976, at the Assembly of God Church in Stockton. Nancy's grandfather officiated the wedding. Together, they raised two daughters, Brandy and Jessica.

Gloria Ann (Van Patten) Nelson

Gloria Ann (Van Patten) Nelson, daughter of Loren E. Van Patten and Mildred Standish Van Patten, was born July 28, 1937, at Norton County Hospital, Norton. She died peacefully in her sleep on the afternoon of December 6, 2024, at the age of 87, shortly after a sudden diagnosis of end-stage cancer following years of progressing dementia. At the time of her death, Gloria was in the care of her children and hospice at her son Terry’s home on Wilson Lake; she was turned toward the view of the lake at the end.

Thomas "Tom" Menzies

Thomas "Tom" Menzies, age 78, of Raymore, Missouri, passed away unexpectedly on January 17, 2025, at his vacation home in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

He was born on October 6, 1946, to John and Louise Menzies. Tom dedicated much of his life to his country in the United States Air Force, both in active duty and civil service. Tom was honorably discharged from active duty in 1972 as Master Sergeant. 
Tom was joined in marriage with his late wife, Cheryle Menzies, on November 21, 1971. Their union was blessed with three children.

Gregory "Chad" Burger, 54, of Kensington, Kansas, passed away on January 23, 2025.

Born on July 21, 1970, in Salina to Shelley and Greg Burger, Chad attended Lucas Luray High School, graduated from Rexford High School, and later pursued studies at Colby County Community College. Chad's life was a celebration of family, hard work, and cherishing the things he loved most.
