The Stockton Area Chamber of Commerce held its regular monthly meeting at Farmers National Bank on Tuesday, November 10th. Things are being lined up for Olde Tyme Christmas with the Main Street Parade to start at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, November 27th. The Grand Marshalls for the parade are Mike and Sandy Rogers. There will be socially distanced Santa visits following the parade. There is a possibility of a curbside soup supper.

On Friday, November 13th the following message was sent out: Rooks County has seen a significant increase in both the number of positive cases and the rate of positive tests. During the month of October, RCH tested an average of 50 people per week and had a positivity rate of 22%. The week of November 2nd-8th, 2020 RCH tested 99 people and saw a positivity rate of 37%. Since November 9th, 2020, RCH has tested 112 people and has a current positivity rate of 47%. These changes are similar to numbers across Kansas and the U.S. where the number of new cases per day have set records. Kansas had an average of 2,430 new cases per day for the last week. The U.S. had more than 163,000 new cases yesterday, Thursday, November 12th.

The regular weekly meeting of the Rooks County Commission was held on Thursday, November 12th. The commissioners met to canvass the votes from the General Election, and to conduct regular business.

Stockton’s Olde Tyme Christmas has been canceled for this year due to the recent outbreak of COVID in the community. Even though the event is canceled, there are still activities scheduled throughout the month of December. The Christmas in Stockton 2020 theme is “Rudolph and Friends Lead You Home for Christmas and To Shop Local.” There will be drawings sponsored by the Stockton Area Chamber of Commerce and participating businesses, which will kick off on Monday, November 30th with a new feature this year—PASSPORT drawings. dolph will be encouraging people to “Shop Local” with weekly drawings in participating businesses where people can not only sign up for the weekly drawings, but also pick up their PASSPORT PUNCH CARDS (Look for the Santa and reindeer logo). The PASSPORT drawings will be held each Monday, beginning November 30th for a chance to win $100.00 in Chamber Checks, and then all passports collected throughout the month will be entered into a Grand Prize drawing on Monday, December 21st for a chance to win $250.00 in Chamber Checks. As of Monday morning, November 16th, the Stockton Farmers Union Elevator has taken in a total of 616,000 bushels of milo and 173,000 bushels of corn. The Woodston Coop has taken in 176,000 bushels of milo and 415,000 bushels of corn. Coop is still taking in corn at this time, and it’s shaping up to be one of the best corn years at Woodston.
