At the regular meeting of the Stockton City Commission held on Tuesday, March 2nd Solomon Valley Manor Administrator Amanda Atkisson was present to give the commissioners an update about the new facility project.

At the end of the Stockton USD No. 271 Board of Education meeting held on Monday, March 1st, the members present voted to hire Lindsey Mongeau as the district office secretary to replace Leslie Knoll, and to hire Christopher Nemeth as a full time custodian.

The Stockton Fire Department received two calls last week, both for grass fires. The first call came on Tuesday, February 23rd at 7:20 a.m. for a grass fire at Maddy’s Corner (17 Road) south of town by the old airport. Ground hay had caught on fire and was quickly extinguished by the volunteers.

Jessica Ambrosier of Norton, Kansas, a junior in animal science and industry at Kansas State University, has been awarded the Matthew Kent Stamper Memorial Scholarship through the Arthur Capper Cooperative Center and the Department of Agricultural Economics at Kansas State University.

On Sunday, February 14th, the City of Stockton was notified from Kansas Municipal Energy Association, which was notified from Southwest Power Pool that if a public utility had the means to run diesel generators they should start doing so by 7:00 a.m. on Monday, February 15th.

“We are excited to start our new facility project and wanted to begin with some basic questions and answer for the public,” stated Solomon Valley Manor Administrator Amanda Atkisson.

The news reports are shocking: Homeowners in Texas opening their utility bills, to find a years’ worth of charges on one month’s bill—sometimes more. The bills are due to extreme Arctic temperatures from the Dakotas to Texas Feb.

Amos and Elizabeth Earlywine are an interesting couple for a couple of reasons: he was an “older” man when he joined the Union Army during the Civil War, and they are great-grandparents of Frank Walker, who has a specia significance to the Rooks County Historical Museum.
