Heath Latham, MD, Associate Professor for the Department of Internal Medicine at the KU Medical Center, was officially notified on Thursday, April 1st by Executive Vice Chancellor Robert D. Simari, MD, that Latham’s promotion to Professor had been approved by Chancellor Girod.

Jennifer Kesler, second grade teacher at Stockton Grade School, and Shane Austin, Agriculture Education at Stockton, were the District’s Kansas Teacher of the Year (KTOY) nominees from USD 271 for Region 1.

Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism’s (KDWPT) Flint Hills Trail and Prairie Spirit Trail state parks recently received America’s highest trails honor when they were designated National Recreational Trails by the National Park Service.

To raise awareness of the importance of driving safely, 358 officers from 92 Kansas law enforcement agencies spent a combined total of 2,569 hours conducting the SAFE Enforcement Campaign near high schools between Feb. 22 and March 5.

Rooks County continues to see a decrease in new COVID-19 cases throughout the county. This week the absenteeism rate is at 0.0% above the baseline from 2019-2020. The positive testing rate is at 6.2% this week. Rooks County continues to receive weekly allocations of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The Stockton eighth-grade Scholars Bowl Team finished a busy season as the league’s top team. During the 2021 junior high Scholars Bowl season, the Stockton students attended regular meets at TMP, Osborne, Ellis, Hill City, Phillipsburg, as well as hosted one in Stockton.

The stilling basin at Webster Reservoir near Stockton will be closed to all activities beginning April 19, 2021. This popular fishing location will be closed for approximately 3 years to allow completion of a large construction project.
