The Rooks County Conservation District’s 73rd annual meeting is set for Monday, February 7th. The meeting will be held in the Plainville Grade School Cafeteria to begin at 6:30 p.m.

Twenty years ago Dr. Jen Brull was a young doctor, newly graduated with no training in the business of medicine. She was looking for a place to fulfill her obligation to serve in a rural community of Kansas.

In recent years there has been a steady decline in the attendance of the annual Stockton High School Alumni Banquet on Memorial Day Weekend. Many classes have opted to hold their own reunions.

On Wednesday, December 15th, the dreadful day of extremely high wind and “The Four County Fire,” the first fire siren sounded at 12:50 p.m. for a call to Highway 24 and 8 Roads due to a pasture fire near Bryant and Danielle Muir’s residence. The cause of the fire was from a lightning strike.

The Rooks County Commissioners voted to allow road and bridge superintendent Rich Bouchey to purchase a 1224 volt jump starter and generator with air for the approximate cost of $12,000.00 (installed), at the weekly meeting held on Tuesday, January 11th.

Students and teachers from Stockton USD #271, Plainville USD and Sacred Heart School toured the MEGA Lungs display on Wednesday January 12th in Stockton and on Thursday, January 13th in Plainville.

The Stockton Area Chamber of Commerce’s first meeting of the year was held on Tuesday, January 11th at the new location of the Rooks County Farm Bureau Financial Services building. Before the meeting a ribbon cutting was held for the business.
