Chamber works on final plans for Olde Tyme Christmas

At the Stockton Area Chamber of Commerce membership meeting held on Tuesday, November 9th at Farmers National Bank, the members present went over final plans for Stockton’s Olde Tyme Christmas scheduled for Friday, November 26th. Events to be held that day will include a Fire Department Pancake Feed, a free movie sponsored by the St. Thomas Knights of Columbus, a virtual roller coaster ride, a vendor fair, the Community Tree Ornament Contest, and the Main Street Christmas Parade with visits from Santa.

County renews BC/BS insurance policy for 2022 year

Julie Yarmer with Freedom Claims was present at the Rooks County Commission meeting held on Tuesday, November 9th to present the County’s insurance renewal policy with the commissioners. After reviewing the policy with Yarmer, the commissioners voted to approve the renewal with Blue Cross/Blue Shield for the 2022 year.

Vision Leadership Class returns in 2021

After a two-year absence due to COVID, the Rooks County Vision Leadership class returned in 2021 with 9 participants completing the training in October. This year’s participants included: Taylor Ayers, Stacy Beiker, Tierra Brown, Adam Bryant, Alessa Dinkel, Fallyn Handley, Addie Holmes, Sue McFarland, and Jamie Stahl.

Dedication of Stockton Veterans Cemetery held

After two years of planning, designing and organizing, the Stockton VFW Post 8873 Auxiliary was proud to finally hold the dedication of the Stockton Veterans Cemetery in honor of our veterans. Three black, powder-coated metal soldiers now kneel in the corners of the cemetery to mark where our heroes rest. Two flagpoles, connected with a large, arched metal “Veterans” sign, the insignias of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard and Space Force mark the entrance of the area. Yes, you read that right, the Stockton Fire Department is having a free-will donation Pancake Feed starting at 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Stockton City Hall.

Casey catches game-winning pass in OT as KU upsets the Longhorns

When you mention the name, Jared Casey, Mid-Continent League sports fans immediately know him as a multi-sport, standout athlete at Plainville High School. After Kansas University’s win over Texas last Saturday night, Jayhawk fans — and Longhorn fans — will also know who you are talking about as it was Casey who caught the game-winning pass on the twopoint conversion which gave KU the thrilling, 57-56 victory in overtime. City approves updated contract on Solomon Valley Manor project

At the Stockton City Commission meeting held on Tuesday, November 2nd, the commissioners voted to approve the updated contract with Parkway for the construction of the new Solomon Valley Manor building. After reviewing the bids and higher cost estimates of material, the increase of the loan went from $5.6 million to $6.6 million at the original interest rate with Solutions North Bank. The building committee has submitted for several grants. Minor changes to the facility will be discussed. Plans are now to move forward to tear down the Scout House and begin dirt work for the new facility. A groundbreaking ceremony will be held later this month.

County commissioners updated on road project

Rooks County Commissioners John Ruder, Greg Balthazor and Tim Berland met with road and bridge supervisor Rich Bouchey during their weekly meeting held on Tuesday, November 2nd. Bouchey informed the commissioners that the crew is rocking on 17 Road, and has laid down material on V Road.
