The Heartland Community Foundation is nearing the end of Twice as Nice—its annual Match Month campaign when donations to the foundation are doubled by the Dane G. Hansen Foundation. All donations must be postmarked by Feb. 28 in order to be eligible for matching.

The Heartland Community Foundation can earn up to $50,000 in matched funds for each of its three county legacy funds: Ellis County Legacy Fund, Rooks County Legacy Fund, and Trego County Legacy Fund. Each county that reaches the $50,000 goal will also receive a bonus $25,000 gift from the Hansen Foundation! Collectively, $225,000 match and bonus dollars are available to Heartland.

The county legacy funds are permanent endowed accounts. Heartland Community Foundation uses the investment income from each fund to make grants to charitable organizations in the respective counties. Grant dollars benefit the community in a variety of ways, from projects for children and teens, to others that are for seniors, people with disabilities, or the community at large. In 2021, Heartland granted $351,398 to more than 60 charitable groups in Ellis, Rooks, and Trego counties. Of that amount, more than $129,000 went to local schools and teachers. With just days to go before the 2022 Twice as Nice campaign ends, Heartland has not quite reached the $50,000 goal in any of its three counties. A donation of any size from supporters in the community may put the foundation over the top and ensure Heartland captures every match and bonus dollar possible.

Alone, gifts of $50, $100 or even $500 might not be enough to make a big impact for a nonprofit organization. But, when those gifts are combined with the gifts of others, and then invested so they grow even more over time, the impact is so much larger!

“We’d like to thank all of our donors so far in 2022 for their generous investment to the future of our community,” said Sarah Meitner, executive director at the Heartland Community Foundation. “We are getting closer to our goal and are hopeful we will hit it in each county by the end of the month.”

You can make a donation in any of the below ways. Please designate which legacy fund to direct your donation: Ellis Legacy Fund, Rooks Legacy Fund, or Trego Legacy Fund. Each contribution designated to a county will stay in that county. Here’s how you can help:

• Donate securely online at: www.heartlandcommunityfoundation.org

• Mail a check to: Heartland Community Foundation, PO Box 1673, Hays, KS 67601

• Drop off a check at: 1200 Main St., Suite #102, in Hays

Heartland can also accept gifts of grain, stock/ securities, IRA rollover, donor advised fund transfer, and other non-cash assets. If you have questions, call 785-621-4090.

“The need among the nonprofits that apply to Heartland is typically far more than the amount we have available to grant,” Meitner continued. “With your donations, match dollars from Hansen, future estate gifts, and lots of patience, we can grow these funds and grant even more.”
