THE MAIN STREET CHRISTIAN CHURCH had depicted “The Last Supper” as their Living Christmas Card during the evening hours in December of 1994 when each church made a living display on the front lawns of the schools. People lined the streets to walk by each display of this annual event.

Commissioners receive updates on county road work

County appraiser Heather Poore was at the Rooks County Commission meeting held on Tuesday, December 7th to ask if one of her employees could work on Friday afternoons to make up her time when she was out of the office for doctor appointments. The office will still be closed to the public on Friday afternoons. The consensus of the commissioners was to allow her to work at that time. Poore also noted that there is no maternity leave in the County’s policy at this time.

Stockton City Commissioners Reesa Brown, Jesica Kerr, Nathan Glendening, Adam Bryant and Bob Becker met on Tuesday, December 7th for the regular commission meeting. Also at the meeting were city clerk/manager Courtney Flower and assistant city clerk Kayla Hilbrink.

Stockton students Stand for the Silent

“Everybody is Somebody” and “You can make a difference.” These were the main messages that Kirk Smalley shared with Stockton 8-12 grade students on Dec. 9. Stand for the Silent was started in 2010 by a group of Oklahoma high school stu- dents after they heard the story of Kirk and Laura Smalley’s son, Ty Smalley.

County tax revenues up $671,599.16 from 2020

It’s no surprise that the biggest increase in the County’s tax revenue for the 2021 year is in Oil with an increase of $599,143.13 for a total of $1,853,122.55. The 2020 total was $1,253,989.42. Real Estate also increased from the 2019 figure of $8,546,491.71 to $8,631,831.47 for a total increase of $85,339.76. Specials make up the last in crease from the 2020 figure of $31,034.88 to $35,191.05, an increase of $275,153.83. (The Specials tax is imposed on city cleanup of property (lots, for instance, to enable irrigation by the irrigation district; or for such projects and sewer, curb and gutter improvements.)

County commissioners hold short end-of-month meeting

Most of the Rooks County Commission meeting held on Tuesday, November 30th was spent reviewing and signing vouchers, end-of-the-month vouchers and payroll, but before the commissioners turned their attention to that they conducted the business segment of their meeting.
