Commissioners hold phone conference with Witt O’Brien

At the regular weekly meeting of the Rooks County Commission, held on Tuesday, August 25th, commissioners John Ruder and Greg Balthazor, along with health nurse Lori Eichman and clerk Ruthie Muir held a phone conference with representatives from Witt O’Brien, the facilitator for the County’s SPARK funds. They went over the funding timeline and answered questions the commissioners and the clerk had about ideas to utilize the remaining COVID funds. They were instructed to make a list of other supplies, equipment, etc. the County entities, schools and hospital could still use and send it to them within the next two weeks.

The Thursday night shower we received last week produced only .35 in Melton’s gauge. Linda Melton’s family heard from a cousin, Harry Stillwagon, who lives south of Shreveport, Louisiana just east of the Texas line.

The menus for the week beginning Monday, September 7, are as follows: Monday—Closed for Labor Day. Tuesday—Pork cutlet, augratin potatoes, peas, bread, peaches. Wednesday—Goulash, Brussels sprouts, bread, hot cinnamon apple slices. Thursday—Chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, corn, bread, mandarin oranges. Friday—Baked fish, parslied potatoes, country style tomatoes, bread, plums.

Driver education programs can receive financial assistance

A new Driver Education Reimbursement Grant Program has been established to provide financial assistance to driver’s education programs to help individuals who may not have been able to participate otherwise. The program is part of the Eisenhower Legacy Transportation Program (IKE) passed by the Kansas Legislature this spring.
