Several weeks ago, we had striped caterpillars on the dill plants. I always believed these were the ones eating the plants and would be monarch butterflies. Later I read an article that stated they would be black swallowtail butterflies and were laying their eggs on the dill.

Betty Cadoret spent July 9th through July 21st in the home of Larry and Susan Cadoret in Topeka. Betty enjoyed visiting with them and reading books during her leisure time.

The Heartland Community Foundation has awarded Smoky Hills PBS with a grant for $1,500 to support the station’s Literacy Leadership Program. The Literacy Leadership Program is an effort from Smoky Hills PBS to engage and inspire children to be ready and eager to learn.

Casual for a Cause is just one of the ways that Rooks County Health Center (RCH) employees are giving back to the community and National Hydration Day, held on June 23, was the inspiration for the latest effort by RCH staff.

Harry and Willardene Purdum, along with Ellen and Dewey Bateman drove to Rock Springs, Wyo., to visit family, as well as see Willard and Tiffany’s new home. Granddaughter Jessica Scott and her two young sons drove from Port Orchard, Wash., to Rock Springs to make for a wonderful family visit.

Governor Laura Kelly announced July 20th that 36 Kansas cities, one of which includes Stockton, will receive a combined total of $23 million to improve highways and intersections as part of the Kansas Department of Transportation’s City Connecting Link Improvement Program (CCLIP).
