The Purdums' July Summer Trip
Harry and Willardene Purdum, along with Ellen and Dewey Bateman drove to Rock Springs, Wyo., to visit family, as well as see Willard and Tiffany’s new home. Granddaughter Jessica Scott and her two young sons drove from Port Orchard, Wash., to Rock Springs to make for a wonderful family visit. The boys’ dad, Cameron Scott couldn’t get leave from his Navy post to come along on the trip.
Willard and Tiffany Purdum hosted eleven of us as they showed off their new home and community. Our adventures included a large playground park frequented by the granddaughters, an indoor pool and aquatic center, and the community recreation facility also has an ice skating rink and gym plus other exercise features. And, of course, high on the priority list was finding great places to eat.
Willard works for the Bureau of Land Management (the other BLM), so he showed us where he works and the corrals for the wild horses. About 600 wild horses are rounded up each year to help control their population. In the BLM facility lawn— one of the few green spots—a deer was watching us and three bunnies were playing.
Rock Springs is sage brush country which provides little vegetation for horses to eat, which the reason for the annual round up of wild horses— to keep them from starving to death.
On Jessica’s way home she had to detour some three hours to avoid forest fires and get home safely.
Dewey having to be at work Monday, flew from Rock Springs to Lubbock, Texas on Saturday. With Ellen doing the driving, we enjoyed a less stressful return trip home.
