Local Science Educator completes innovative seed to STEM Program

Anthony Cole, the science teacher at Stockton High School, recently completed a Seed to STEM workshop sponsored by the Kansas Corn Commission. The Seed to STEM workshop provided 60 science teachers with classroom lessons and lab exercises to teach about corn, biotechnology, and ethanol. Each teacher received a kit with science lab materials and equipment valued at $500.00 to use in their classrooms.

Outdoor Adventure Camp held in June

June is Great Outdoors Month, and what better way than to spend the day by the lake, having fun and learning about nature? Fish and turtles were caught at the Outdoor Adventure Day Camp on Tuesday, June 6th, at the Rooks State Fishing Lake. Graham and Rooks County Game Warden Jake Brooke, K9 Kreed, Kansas Forest Service District Fire Management Officer Chris Hanson, and Kansas Wildlife and Parks Summer Intern Brendon shared their expertise with the youth.
GAME WARDEN JAKE BROOKE talked about wildlife identification using skins of the animals to the many boys and girls that attended the Outdoor Adventure Day at Rooks State Fishing Lake on Tuesday, June 6th.

Public Health Advisories for Kansas Lakes Due to Blue-Green Algae

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) and the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) issued their latest public health advisory update due to blue-green algae late Thursday afternoon, June 15. Once again, Webster Reservoir, located 8 miles west of Stockton, remains in an Active "Warning" Advisory.

Three from Rooks County earn spring semester honors at KSU

Nearly 4,000 Kansas State University students have earned semester honors for their academic performance in the spring 2023 semester. Students earning a grade point average for the semester of 3.75 or above on at least 12 graded credit hours receive semester honors along with commendations from their deans.
